Many of you decided to follow me for business advice, and yes, this is related.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s related because experiencing rental discrimination for the first time last year has encouraged me to save my coins so I can buy my first home with cash.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s related because I know how empowering leaving a toxic work environment that makes you feel othered every single day for years can feel.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s related because entrepreneurship, to me, is the ultimate form of rebellion.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My African American ancestors have fought for this Nation since the Civil War, before they were even seen as whole people. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am an all-American girl.⁣⁣ I am the all-American dream.⁣⁣ And I am my ancestors WILDEST dreams.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Today, I encourage you to look into ways to encourage Justice for George Floyd. But as current or future founders, I’d also like to use this space to remind you that injustice does not only occur in the form of physical violence. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ YOU have the power to hire diverse teams (that includes not just entry-level positions, but also your business coach, your accountant, your co-founder, etc…) ⁣⁣ You have the power to foster a welcoming environment in your business. For your employees, your contractors, your clients, social media followers, and your customers.⁣⁣ You have the power to learn. One of my signature phrases is, “to be a business owner, you have to be a lifelong learner”. This does not just apply to coding, marketing, or design skills — but to soft skills, too. “Now is not the time to sell...”⁣ Nope, but now is the time to serve.⁣ ⁣ I used to hate selling, until I:⁣ ⭐️ Got really confident about my offer⁣ ⭐️ Started coming at sales from a place of service⁣ ⁣ I haven’t put out one ad or done much hard selling at all, but my revenue is actually *up* post-quarantine. Why? Because people are looking for solutions to their business problems and I am offering helpful solutions. It really is that simple. Yes, sales funnels and fancy software and complicated processes can help, but I really encourage you to take things back to the basics right now.⁣ ⁣ If you look at your business as one big sales pitch and don’t understand how it’s actually helping people, then that’s probably your problem.⁣ ⁣ What questions do you have about selling? HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT LINKEDIN? 🤔⁣ ⁣ It's gotten a bit of a bad rap because of slimy salespeople attacking the DMs too quickly, but don't let them make you believe that's what the platform is all about.
