Public Notice: Changes to reserved and first-come, first served campsites at Gull Lake Campground

Visitors to the Eastern Sierra should plan for some changes to the reserved and first-come, first-served campsites at the Gull Lake Campground this year. Previously, all sites at Gull Lake Campground were first come, first-served. Effective Wednesday, January 29, Gull Lake Campground reservations will be available at Gull Lake Campground is managed by the concession company, California Land Management (CLM), under a permit with the Inyo National Forest.

Guided Snowshoe Hikes with a Ranger Begins January 25 on the Carson Ranger District

The Carson Ranger District on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is pleased to announce the return of the popular Forest Ranger-led snowshoe walks. “Ranger-led snowshoe walks are a fun way to explore National Forest System Lands, while learning about the natural, cultural, and geologic history of the Lake Tahoe area,” said Cody Nicholes, Off-Highway Vehicle Manager for the Carson Ranger District. The guided snowshoe walks take place in Tahoe Meadows, one-mile southwest of the summit of Nevada State Route 431 (Mt. Rose Highway). Join the USDA Forest Service Ranger at the west end of Tahoe Meadows, on the south side of the road


The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed State Route 4 over Ebbetts Pass, Route 89 over Monitor Pass and Route 108 over Sonora Pass for the 2019/2020 winter season as of Monday, December 2, 2019. The weather conditions on the passes and subsequent road conditions are among the determining factors in the decision to make the seasonal closure. For the latest road condition information, the radio may be tuned to the Caltrans Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) at 530 AM, 1610 AM or 1670 AM or call the Caltrans Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623). All vehicles, including those with four-wheel drive or snow tires should, additionally, carry chains when traveling during snowy weather.
