One thing that I enjoy (that we all probably enjoy) about travel is seeing - and photographing - the cultural differences. You grow up and live in one place, and it's easy to take what's around you for granted. Like it's the norm. Like everybody lives that way. But then you visit another country. And suddenly you realize...hey not everybody does it the way we do! It's especially striking the first time you venture out of your home country I think...but it happens every time I visit a foreign place. I notice the grand and subtle differences. And that's one of my FAVORITE aspects of travel! Take for example, France (you knew that was coming, didn't you?? 😊)...one of the differences from the U.S. is their public transportation. Wow. They have some incredible and accessible transportation and I LOVE IT!! 🚉 What's something you noticed and love - or didn't love - about another country that you've visited??
Sometimes the best photos come when we change our perspective. Most of our photos are taken from eye level. Which makes sense, because that's how we see the world, right? Next time you have your camera out, challenge yourself to look up. Look down. Squat down. Reach up. And suddenly you'll notice (and photograph) things that you might have been missing before. How cool is that?!!
Oooh how I love to play with lights and shadows...especially when traveling! It's something you might not always even notice. When traveling we tend to look for the iconic and "wall-worthy" things to photograph. But I challenge you...next time you're out with your camera, have some fun with shadows and see what kind of photos you create!
We talk a lot about making "better" or "amazing" photos. But one of the main reasons we take photos is for the memories. Right? I mean sure if those memories are spectacular and we're proud of the photo that represents them, even better. Of all the places you traveled, is there one that really stand out? That you think about more often? Do your photos help relive that memory with more detail? For me New York City is one of those places. Now we didn't just visit, we lived there for 2 years. And those are some damn fine memories. But the photos sure help add details that I would never remember. What's one of those places for you that bring back the best memories? (or most interesting)
It's been a while since I've introduced myself so I figured now is a good time to tell you just a bit about me...for those of you who are new here - or just don't know who the heck I am. I'm Diane, founder of PhotoFluent where I teach travelers how to create photos that they love...that tell the story of their amazing travel experiences. I live in Northern California with my hubby and sweet dog (Princess Maggie Mae) but dream of us all moving to France once day (SOON!). You might notice some sarcasm in my posts - and if you don't...you're not paying close enough attention. On my list of must-have's: tea, yoga, bike riding, woo woo stuff like affirmations, mantras, and meditation. Want to connect? I'd love to hear from you! Send me a DM and let me know your must-have's...or tell me about your love of France (I always love connecting to other Francophiles 😊🇫🇷) À bientôt !
In celebration of International Women’s Day, I pulled together some of my favorite photos I made of women in France. I’m so grateful for all the women who are there to support, listen and love.
