My Mountain Wild is a lifestyle blog for the busy mother looking for affordable wats to get organized, get your kids outside, pull an outfit together, and get dinner on the table. I enjoy working with brands that bring value to my readers. Small shops, eco-friendly brands, and companies that give back to the community are some of my ideal brands to work with. We are new homeowners that moved from Denver to NW Montana and are looking to simplify our lives and connect back to nature. And I want to share with other families that they can do it, too. My dream for Mountain Wild is that it will be an amazing resource and community for mothers looking for inspiration, ideas, how-to's and a place they feel they belong. I have big plans for 2020 to share some home renovation content, more affordable fashion posts, and some campfire recipes I have been working on.
Every morning I wake up with intentions to start the day with God by reading my Bible. Some days that works out, others it does not. When you have a 2 year old, an 8 month old, and a preteen, life can be unpredictable. But I always feel so at peace when I give my first moments to God. So why not end each night giving my last moments to Him, too ? I received a copy of @lysaterkeurst new women’s devotional- Clear Mind, Peaceful Heart 50 Devotions For Sleeping Well In a World Full of Worry. If you are like me and the moment you finally lay in bed and your body starts to calm - ALL the things start flooding into your head. The to-do lists left unchecked, all the things I have to do the next day and the rest of the week… worries about the crazy world we live in, worrying about the future for my boys, and all the other anxieties of my personal life. Adding in this devotional has been a really beautiful part of my evening bedtime routine. I may be in a season where I’m barely washing my face because I have a baby that doesn’t sleep… but you best believe I’m at least taking my evening probiotic and reading one of these devotionals, even if it’s by my phone light while I’m nursing my baby. Let’s start our days and end our days with Jesus. Is there a better way ? 😊 🔗 in bio & stories for this devotional 🩵 #ad #clearmindpeacefulheart #proverbs31 #lysaterkeurst @proverbs31ministries #womensdevotional #bedtimedevotional #christianmamablogger #simpleliving Book on nightstand | Christian books for women | flip through of book | devotional
When I lived out West I made violet syrup every Spring and we’d use it to make violet soda. This year my syrup wasn’t a very pretty purple/blue color but it tastes divine. These violets here in Virginia are a bit larger and taste more floral than the ones I am use to. It’s an easy and fun thing to do with littles. Recipe : A cup of violets, stems removed and rinsed with cold water A cup of boiling water Let infuse in a jar over night (I let mine sit a bit longer than normal because life was lifeing) Strain into a small saucepan and push out the water from the violets. Turn the stovetop on low and add in about a cup of sugar and stir until dissolved. (I use raw sugar which muttles the color a bit) Pour into a clean glass jar and refrigerate. A couple of TBS of the syrup with some ice (I add in some violets to the ice mold for some pretty purple color) and sparkling mineral water or club soda to make a sweet floral refreshing Spring drink. Adding this to lemonade🍋 is delicious too ! How do you enjoy wild violets this time of year ?
Happy Resurrection Day ! ✝️ Grateful to spend this special day with my parents who came up for the weekend. The boys opened their baskets, we did our annual backyard egg hunt, then we went to church and then I made a huge brunch and we feasted. He is risen ! He is alive ! I hope you had a beautiful and blessed Easter weekend 💕
Do you ever feel powerless and overwhelmed by the pain and suffering all around you? Our world seems to be getting heavier and darker by the day. Have you ever asked- What can I even do to mend the world, my family, or my own life? Does my own small part even matter? If so, here comes hope from two guides who are further down the road. Charlie and Andi have written a collection of letters to Christians and spiritual seekers who think deeply and care greatly about the state of the world and their personal spheres of influence. Each of these letters is a gentle nudge in the direction of God’s powerfully ordinary purpose for each of us, no matter what the future holds, to participate fully in the beautiful, redemptive work of Christ. Do you love Peter Rabbit as much we do ? We have always been big Beatrix Potter fans over here and I have a hard time not buying anything Peter Rabbit when I see it. My littles nursery is rabbit themed, so anything that doubles as decor is a win-win. I thought I’d share a Peter Rabbit themed Easter basket to give you last minute ideas if you haven’t finished your baskets yet! Head to the blog to see the details and all the links. 6 days until Easter! www.MYSIMPLEWILD.com
Theodore knew exactly what the little pink package was that we got from @bubblingbotanicals this month. He was SO excited and asking “please” over and over. So I set up this very simple sensory tray in the front yard and it kept him busy for 45 minutes today. I think this will be a St. Patrick’s Day tradition! I got to watch an early screening of the movie Pastor’s Kid (in theaters march 15) and I think everyone should see it. Whether you are a believer or not, this raw true story is full of hope and inspiration. It is rated R so definitely not kid-friendly. It’s about a college student named Riley who is running from her painful childhood and religious hypocrisy. It’s about faith and redemption and that sometimes God has other plans for us. Riley is faced with the choice to either continue running from her demons or confront them head-on. She discovers the power of forgiveness and finds the strength to break free from the chains of her past. There are not too many details with Riley’s past in this movie, which leads the viewer to kind of insert their own chains or past traumas. I related to this movie in many ways. Oh, the mistakes I have made. I also ran from God, like Riley, for many years. I have had a lot of demons to face myself. This movie is a good reminder that no one is too far gone or made too many mistakes to accept Jesus. It doesn’t matter how dark your world has become, because He is the light that will always shine for you. #sponsored #ChristianArtHouse #RawFaith #NeverTooFar @ironside_films @pastorskidmovie @bandekoot
I have been reading this book Life Is Hard, God is Good, Let’s Dance by Brant Hansen. It’s been a nice light-hearted and funny read after I recently read a more serious and “heavy” book. His writing style is my favorite kind - like someone is sitting down with you and telling their story over a cup of coffee. His life has been incredibly interesting and I was surprised that he is also from a tiny town in rural Illinois! And in this modern world where we only show the best sides of ourselves, this is a breath of fresh air - authentic and real and imperfect. There was plenty of times I laughed out loud reading this book and a lot of nodding my head in agreement and understanding. There is something for everyone in this one that you can find relatable. I love to hear how God is working in people’s lives, and Mr. Hansen has some real good stories. He shares how we can all live a life full of joy, even in this crazy world. Regardless of circumstances, we can all experience that true joy through Jesus- what a beautiful reminder! I'm about half way through the book I Don't Know Who I Am Anymore - Restoring Your Identity Shattered By Grief and Loss by @caroleholiday I wasn't too sure what kind of book this was or that I really needed it. From a quick glance from the outside in, I don't know if one would really say I have lost much. I am beyond blessed and know that. I don't talk about a lot of the loss I have experienced over the past few years because I use my page to inspire and share little snippets of beauty in my family's life. I don't often get too heavy and messy here. But I have loss and heartache like anyone else. As I continue to learn what it means to be a Christian, I am learning so much about myself. Something I finally started working through lately is the loss of a baby that we were supposed to adopt from a family member. When I was pregnant with Theodore, I was preparing my home and heart for two babies. And when it fell through and was handled so carelessly and hurtfully, my heart hardened. I struggled with feeling thankful and happy with my new baby while also grieving the loss of the other. It was a very messy time. I was expected to act like everything was fine and move on like everyone else did. Because of this loss, I think a lot about our baby we lost 5 years ago, stirring up more pain. We've had so much unexpected change and drama and hurt over the past few years, and now I've been dealing with postpartum issues that make me feel like I am just lost. I wouldn't have picked this book up for myself because I wouldn't think I "needed it", but as I read, I think about this and that in my own life, and realize I did need to read this right now. So much of this book is overlapping and connecting with what I am learning in a church study group I just joined some things I just heard in a podcast the other day. If that's not a "God nudge", I don't know what is. I have so many pages dog eared in this book already. Carole Holiday writes like someone sharing their journal entries with you. It's real and raw and beautiful and from the heart. It's one of those you just don't want to put down. Her story makes me feel not alone and a wonderful reminder that during those difficult times of life, God is working. We often can't see the work that is being done while it's happening. We see the beginning and then the final result. I hear from so many believers that they look back at certain things and have an "aha" moment of why something happened the way it did. God doesn't do things the way we would do them. And that's kind of the point, isn't it ? I also love that she points out the fact we can be sad about something while still trusting in Him. I can feel hurt and sad and angry and still know that I am in His hands and know that it's all part of His plan. If you or someone you know are dealing with any kind of loss at all in your own life - a job, a person, a relationship, a house, even loss over a season of your life, etc... pick up a copy of this book. And then DM me so we can talk about it because I would love to hear your thoughts! 🤍 Thank you @frontgate for sending me a copy of this book. #IDKWIAA #neverthoughts #spirtiualhealing #healingyourself #grief
Irish soda bread was the very first kind of bread I ever made back when I was a teenager. I remember being thrilled that it turned out and that I didn't need yeast. It comes together so quickly and always tastes deliciously moist in the inside with a thick crumbly crust on the outside. I make this for my family once in a while, especially around St. Patrick's Day. It's delicious slathered in a good irish butter, or using it to sop up a hearty irish stew. It's even good for breakfast with jam. Make it • 4 cups flour • 2 tsp kosher salt • 1 Tbs raw sugar • 1 tsp baking soda • 1 egg • 1¾ C buttermilk • 2 Tbs melted butter Preheat oven to 400ºF. Whisk together flour, salt, sugar,& baking soda in a large bowl. In a medium bowl, beat the egg, buttermilk, & melted butter. Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until combined. I use my hands to really mix it up well and knead it a bit. Grease a cast iron skillet with butter. Lightly flour your hands, form the dough into a ball, and transfer to prepared skillet. Use a sharp knife to make an X across the top of the dough ball. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until lightly golden and bottom sounds hollow when tapped. Remove from oven, transfer to cooling rack, and let cool for 15 minutes before slicing. I have also added herbs and cheese to soda bread, and it is sooo so good. What was the first kind of bread you ever made ? Any yummy Irish dishes planned for this week ? I have corned beef & cabbage planned for Friday ! 😋

🌻New blog post !🌻 After months of not having time to write, I finally have a new blog post up. I'm sharing a "day in the life" Fall homeschool edition! I sometimes get asked what curriculum we use and how we structure our days so I thought I'd share what a "regular" day at home looks like for our homeschool. Head to the blog to see how we're doing morning time these days, what curriculum we are using for the 4th grade, how we are trying to work around my one year old's naps, and finding a new rythm to our days and weeks in a new home and a new state. I get pretty real and transparent at the end sharing our stuggles too! So make sure you read through the whole article if you're interested. https://mysimplewild.com/2022/09/22/a-day-in-the-life-fall-homeschool-edition/
