My word for 2021 - LISTEN 👂 I was actually resistant to the idea of this word at first... let’s be real, it’s not very sexy and feels pretty passive. After really thinking on it, I don’t think there could be a better word for me this year. Last year my word was consistency. In the beginning of the year I had all these ideas on how consistency was going to catapult me to surpass my goals. The truth is, consistency carried me through the craziness of 2020. ⏸ Hitting the pause button this week on a lot of the things. I have had a history of “pushing through” and ignoring signs that I need a break so I wanted to share some of the mindsets I have had to break & lessons I have learned in my own life: 1️⃣ Taking care of yourself isn’t being a lazy... it’s being proactive! Sometimes the best thing you can do is set the project down and come back to it fresh! Not sure who else needs to hear this but it’s ok to take a break before the task is done!!! Knowing your limits is a beautiful thing. 2️⃣ There is always someone else that “has it worse off than you” - that doesn’t mean you don’t need a break! It’s so easy to reason away how many other people need a break before you, but that does not change the fact that YOU NEED TO STOP! 3️⃣ Set up guard rails. If you aren’t used to taking time off or to yourself, it’s easy to not even know what to do! You will spend the whole time scrolling social or staring at a wall. Make a plan. Tell someone your plan. Utilize tools to keep you on track! 4️⃣ Communicate and delegate. Set away messages on your emails and set exceptions with people you interact with regularly. Think of things you regularly do that someone else can do during your break. A few hours of planning and connecting can make or break your downtime! 5️⃣ Reflect and re-evaluate at the end of your break. Don’t just go back to business as usual. Maybe you put some things down you don’t need to pick back up. Maybe there is something you started you want to keep going... take time to evaluate what’s important!

I had the opportunity to speak at our church this past Sunday. It’s always so much fun and a little nerve wracking!!! 🤪 So cool that on #OrphanSunday I got to share some the about the nonprofit we started called @harbor.58! Harbor58, inspired by Isaiah 58:10, will help equip youth aging out of the foster care system. Our vision is to provide give each resident their small home while teaching them life skills and helping overcome past hurts. This is no small undertaking but have already been blown away at how God has opened doors blessed this ministry! We are just getting started and I have already been stretched and inspired more than I ever have been in my life!! I am so glad to finally be able to share about this amazing venture with you all!
