Between being sick, work, and trying to get law school applications out, it’s been very difficult for me to find many positives. πŸ€’ But I think in times like these, identifying the positive things in life and choosing happiness is more important than ever. So to continue my tradition of Positivity Friday, here are some positive things that I experienced this week: 1. I felt incredibly supported and cared for by my community on here while I’ve been recovering. Despite not having posted on my grid for about a week, y’all have continually engaged with me, DM’d me your well wishes, checked in on me, and I’ve even continued to gain new followers and grow daily. Words can’t express how grateful I am for y’all πŸ’• 2. My job supported me and allowed me to take sick days without any guilt or questions. I appreciate being able to work for a company who genuinely cares for their employees ✨ 3. I finally felt well enough to get up and go outside for the first time in like 4 days today, and it felt sooo good🌞 Now it’s your turn! Share your positive moments from this past week, no matter how big or small! Let’s share some positivity and get this weekend started out right! πŸ’• ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ #selfcareisntselfish #Yosemite #sharepositivity #locationindependent #bepositive✌ #experiencelife #digitalnomads #travellifestyle #travelbloggers #forestfire #caliroadtrip #bloggersofig #nationalparkgeek #roamtheglobe #yosemitenationalpark #wanderingwomen #voyageuse #positiveaffirmation #wanderlusttribe #wanderlusttravel #travelobsessed #travelmind #travelmindset #womenwhotravelsolo #positivewords #selfcarelove #happyhabits #findhappiness #positiveenergyonly @travelgirlsvibe @travelgirlshub @thattravelblog @womenwhoexplore @women_travellers @womenforwanderlust

They say that one of the keys to happiness and contentment is to identify one or two things every day that you are happy about in that are positive in your life, and Positivity Friday’s are here to help you establish this habit! ⁣ Here are the positive things that have happened in my life this week! ⁣ 1. I got my first law school acceptance letter, with a scholarship that covers almost all of the tuition! πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€βš–οΈ ⁣ 2. For the first time in months, I got my evenings back and didn’t have to work overtime! πŸ’†πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ ⁣ 3. I got to see my grandparents for the first time in almost a year, and it was so great to see them! πŸ‘΅ πŸ‘΄πŸ» ⁣ 4. I’ve worked out several times this week, and I’ve been eating healthier and more intentionally! πŸ’ͺ🏻 ⁣ Now it’s your turn: tell me about the positive things you’ve done or that have happened this past week! It could be anything, from seeing an amazing sunrise to finally getting a take a walk in a new town, or finding a new trail to hike. If it’s positive to you, it’s positive to me! ✨ ⁣ Let’s share some positivity in the comments below πŸ’•πŸ‘‡πŸ» ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ #selfcareisntselfish #deathvalley #sharepositivity #locationindependent #bepositive✌ #experiencelife #digitalnomads #travellifestyle #travelbloggers #forestfire #caliroadtrip #bloggersofig #nationalparkgeek #roamtheglobe #deathvalleynationalpark #wanderingwomen #voyageuse #positiveaffirmation #wanderlusttribe #wanderlusttravel #travelobsessed #travelmind #travelmindset #womenwhotravelsolo #positivewords #selfcarelove #happyhabits #findhappiness #positiveenergyonly @travelgirlsvibe @travelgirlshub @thattravelblog @womenwhoexplore @women_travellers @womenforwanderlust

πŸ“ Today we’re talking about bucket list travel destination and activities! πŸ“ ⁣ We all have one: an ever growing bucket list of places that we’ve seen people post about on Instagram that we absolutely want to see more than anything else… Until the next photo comes along! πŸ˜… ⁣ Rather than overwhelm yourself with trying to accomplish the impossibility of seeing everything (and no, there’s no way to see EVERYTHING, much as it may pain you to hear), narrow your list down by the places that will give you the most value! πŸ’• ⁣ 🀩 1. Is it because you just want the pretty photo opp, or is there something there that actually holds value for you? It’s OK to go someplace just because it’s beautiful, but make sure there’s actually things there to do as well, and that it won’t just be a five minute visit and then you have nothing else to do there. πŸ₯² ⁣ 🚧 2. Make sure that reality matches the pictures! Do some research on the location to find out what it actually looks like beneath all the filters and editing. I’ve seen so many debunking stories about Gateway to Heaven in Bali where the β€œmirror” effect actually turned out to be a scam by photographers on-site! πŸ“Έ ⁣ πŸ” 3. Is it actually feasible for you to go there? There are some places that, no matter how much we might want to, are simply not feasible for us to see, whether we’re not in shape enough to do the hike or that the journey to get there is too difficult to arrange (as is the case for the Rupununi Savannah in Guyana, an untouched wilderness that can only be reached by flying into a remote Amazonian village, hiking through the jungle, going down the river in a dug out canoe, and hiring a specially adapted 4x4 vehicle) πŸ₯Ύ ⁣ β›© 4. Remember that it’s better to spend more time in one place than the same amount of time going to many places! Isn’t it better to really delve into the heart of a city or natural wonder rather than rush through to see as many places as possible, but not really be able to enjoy the culture and beauty of what you’re seeing? πŸ•Œ ⁣ How do you narrow down your bucket list? Share your tips, as well as your own bucket less destinations in the comments below! πŸ‘‡πŸ»

The first time I move to France, I swear I had a headache for a solid week! πŸ€• ⁣ If you thought immersive Spanish classes in college were hard, it’s nothing compared to the complete immersion of living in another country, of navigating their immigration or education systems, and the breath of fresh air to finally be able to speak your own language with someone else πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ ⁣ When you live abroad in a land that speaks a different language, you develop a kind of radar that immediately perks up when you hear someone speaking your language. I swear, when I was living in France, I always perked up when I heard an American accent in the crowd of French people! It’s amazing how well your ears can distinguish between the sounds of different languages when necessary! πŸ’¬ ⁣ This word is especially cool because Japanese is written vertically, so the part of the word β€œYokoβ€œ meaning β€œhorizontalβ€œ actually directly references the awkwardness and difficulty of translating between Japanese and other languages that are written horizontally! πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ ⁣ Do you speak any other languages? The Colorado River has seen many attempt to brave her dangerous waters. In a land yet wild and untamed, who can say what is true and what is just a tall tale? ⁣ Shrouded in mystery, James White’s story has been told and retold for 150 years, and no one knows how much of it to believe. Like a centuries-long game of telephone, no one quite knows where the truth ends and the fantastic begins. In 1867, an exhausted, sunburned, and waterlogged prospector came floating out of the Grand Canyon on a haphazard raft made with logs claiming that he and some colleagues were attacked by Native Americans in the mountains of Colorado πŸ” ⁣ To escape, White and another man jumped into the river and floated downstream on a crude log raft. While his companion died, White continued to float down the river for a total of 14 days through what is now Utah, Arizona, and Nevada! Some skeptics say that there’s no way he could’ve survived that long on the river, especially through the dangerous rapids of the Grand Canyon, but others believe his story, saying that he knew things about the Canyon that you wouldn’t know unless you had gone through it! ⁣ In another extraordinary story, three men vanished after they abandoned John Powellβ€˜s famous 1869 expedition down the Colorado river and through the Grand Canyon. Having braved the rapids of Cataract Canyon, the Whitewater of the Grand Canyon prove too much for Powellβ€˜s three companions, and so they bailed out at the place now known as Separation Rapids. Powell gave them a share of the expedition supplies and continued down the river: however, the three men were never heard from again. To this day, no one knows what happened to them. ⁣ It’s perhaps no surprise that a landscape so resistant to humanity that it attempts to prevent people getting in - or getting out – would keep some of its mysteries forever ✨ ⁣ Luckily, these days such pitfalls and disappearances are few and far between with today’s technology, but still...it makes you respect the sanctity and magnificence of one of Nature’s most fantastic and awe-inspiring landscapes 🏜

In tumultuous times like these, I like to escape to nature and dream of simpler times 🌞 ⁣ I once shared Shinrin-Yoku as a Travel Word of the Day. I think in these crazy times, practicing Shinrin-Yoku can be a valuable tool to re enter ourselves and provide the inner peace that we so desperately need 😌 ⁣ Here’s that definition of Shinrin-Yoku for those of you that need a reminder: 𝔽𝕠𝕣𝕖𝕀π•₯ 𝕓𝕒π•₯π•™π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜; 𝕓𝕒π•₯π•™π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜ π•šπ•Ÿ π•₯𝕙𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕖𝕀π•₯ 𝕒π•₯π•žπ• π•€π•‘π•™π•–π•£π•–; π•₯π•’π•œπ•šπ•Ÿπ•˜ π•šπ•Ÿ π•₯𝕙𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕖𝕀π•₯ π•₯π•™π•£π• π•¦π•˜π•™ 𝕠𝕦𝕣 π•€π•–π•Ÿπ•€π•–π•€; π•“π•–π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜ π•šπ•Ÿ π•Ÿπ•’π•₯𝕦𝕣𝕖, π•”π• π•Ÿπ•Ÿπ•–π•”π•₯π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜ π•¨π•šπ•₯𝕙 π•šπ•₯ π•₯π•™π•£π• π•¦π•˜π•™ 𝕠𝕦𝕣 π•€π•–π•Ÿπ•€π•–π•€ 𝕠𝕗 π•€π•šπ•˜π•™π•₯, π•™π•–π•’π•£π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜, π•₯𝕒𝕀π•₯𝕖, π•€π•žπ•–π•π•, π•’π•Ÿπ•• π•₯𝕠𝕦𝕔𝕙 (π•†π•£π•šπ•˜π•šπ•Ÿπ•€: π•π•’π•‘π•’π•Ÿπ•–π•€π•–) ⁣ Here is how YOU can practice Shinrin-Yoku: ⁣ 1. Leave behind your phone, camera, or any other distractions πŸ“± ⁣ 2. Wander aimlessly, allowing your body to take you wherever it wants πŸ₯Ύ ⁣ 3. Take some moments to look more closely at the ants in the grass, the trees blowing in the wind, the sensation of the path beneath your feet 🦢 ⁣ 4. Find a comfortable spot, take a seat, and listen to the sounds around you; feel the bark or cool stone beneath your hands, and watch the behavior of animals around you as they become accustomed to your presence 🐿 ⁣ 5. Just a reminder that if you need to take a break from social media after yesterday’s events, THAT’S OK πŸ’• If your friends are anything like mine, they are righteously angry, and are sharing this righteous anger on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and pretty much everywhere else. That’s a lot of negativity that’s pervading pretty much everywhere we spend our time online 🧨 After last year, I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t necessarily have the mental or emotional capacity to ingest so much negativity. You should never feel guilty for recognizing your own mental health boundaries and establishing them! If you need to log out of social media for a few days, that’s OK and it doesn’t make you a bad person! Your mental health matters! πŸ₯Ί Just remember: self care isn’t selfish! πŸ’†πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Take care of yourselves guys, I know I’m right here for you whenever you come back! πŸ₯°βœ¨ πŸ’• πŸ’• πŸ’• #mentalhealthmattersπŸ’š #mentalhealthblogger #visitnola #emotionalhealth #locationindependent #travelguide #experiencelife #digitalnomads #travellifestyle #travelbloggers #thattravelblog #tblogger #bloggersofig #travelblogging #roamtheplanet #adventurethatislife #lovetotravel #openmyworld #seekmoments #bloglife #futuretravelguide #bloggerslife #traveltribe #travelphotography #bloggerstravellovers #travelauthentic #supportoneanother #travelfashion #authenticexperience #selfcareisntselfish @travelgirlsvibe @travelgirlshub @thattravelblog @womenwhoexplore @women_travellers @womenforwanderlust

2020 was a year of beginnings for me. The beginning of my law school journey, the beginning of my explorations of my own home country, and the beginning of a hobby that would turn into a passion and hopefully someday, a stream of income. ⁣ These are the posts you guys love the most last year. Here’s what they say about you: ⁣ 1. You love to be inspired! My number one liked post last year was a post that provided you with tips for taking command of your own life and pursuing a digital nomad lifestyle πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ’» ⁣ 2. You love the beauty of ordinary things! My 2nd most liked post was an ordinary picture of an interesting looking building in Asheville, North Carolina. You loved how the lighting in the rain made such an ordinary street in an ordinary small town look magical and serene ✨ ⁣ 3. You love nature! My 3rd most liked photo contained Little known tips for natural wonders to be found in the blue ridge mountains of North Carolina. You love to go off the beaten path and go where locals go! πŸ₯Ύ ⁣ 4. You love Christmas in Europe!! You want to explore the magic of the Christmas markets in different countries, and that’s why this photo of Prague was my fourth most-liked photo! πŸŽ„ ⁣ 5. You love inspirational stories of empowerment! I posted this a shot of me at the Grand Canyon on a day when I was feeling my lowest, and then I shared a story of how I remind myself of my worth when I feel down. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your health and beauty routine to save space in your carry-on! πŸ’„ [AD] I don’t know about y’all, but I’m such a minimalist when it comes to travel beauty. SAVE for tips on how to explore a city safely as a solo traveler 🧳 🌴 One thing to be aware of when walking around New Orleans (especially as a woman) is that there is quite a significant homeless population in New Orleans currently, and as a single woman walking the city alone, or even with a friend or two, we are targets for panhandling and catcalls more than anyone else. I’ll never lie to you guys about my authentic and honest experiences in different places, and while I ended up absolutely loving New Orleans, I also will say that at times, I felt unsafe and immensely grateful that I have pepper spray and a small stun gun on my person at any given time. πŸ’€ There was one point when a homeless man, angry that we ignored him, begin to follow us and rant out loud about how he wanted to beat up a couple of white girls! 😱 So here are my tips for avoiding conflict and exploring new cities safely: 1. Always act confident when you’re walking around a city, even if you don’t necessarily know where you are. Looking lost or confused makes you a target immediately. 2. Always have an action plan in the back of your mind. How will you react if someone attacks you? Keep your keys, pepper spray, or stun gun easily accessible. Whatever your choice, make sure you do have a planπŸ‘ŒπŸ» 3. Do not acknowledge panhandlers and cat calls. No matter how graphic or commanding they may be, put on your blinders and don’t acknowledge it. The minute you acknowledge, you become a targetπŸ™‰ 4. Enlist the help and/or guidance of a local to help show you around the city! Once you know the city well, you can walk about it with more confidence and avoid problem areas! 5. Actively share your location with someone you trust. iPhone has a great feature where you can share your location indefinitely, so just set it and rest easy knowing someone knows where you are at any given time! 2020 awakened in me a desire to explore my home country in ways I’d never anticipated or done before πŸ—Ί I know this may be controversial, but despite all of the terrible things that occurred in 2020, I learned to appreciate the small things in life and to appreciate what I have. I cherished the sun and the wind and the rain and every opportunity to step outside. I relished the sound of the trees rustling in the breeze. And I am forever grateful for open roads, sunsets, and blue skies 🌌 Last year, I went places I’ve only ever dreamed of going to, and doin things I never imagined I’d accomplish. I hiked the Grand Canyon, rode a mule along the rim, gambled in Las Vegas, road-tripped across Arizona, explored Death Valley, hiked in Yosemite, shopped in Los Angeles, explored the voodoo culture of New Orleans, discovered a Bavarian alpine town in the mountains of Georgia, snowboarded in Boone, tasted wine from a vineyard in my own North Carolina, and started an Instagram account to document my adventures. πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ’» Last year awakened a desire in me to seize every moment spontaneously and confidently. We are never guaranteed a tomorrow, so cherish the now. Tell your loved ones you love them. Seize opportunities as they come. Work to live, don’t live to work ✨ My goals for 2021? Explore as many national parks as I can. Get into law school. Choose friends over work. Go to the gym more and take care of myself. And cherish the now. Did anything positive happen for you in 2020?
