Highlights
1 night at the JFK Airport Hotel

But my stay at the TWA Hotel outside of New York City’s JFK Airport, was super stress free and a fun vibe, despite really long travel days. When I transitted through JFK in November 2020, through the foggy haze of covid, face masks, and far too many layovers, I had a positive experience at JFK’s TWA Hotel. But also, a cafe area (with views of Connie), a food court (where you can get 24 hour coffee and a bagel for breakfast), a Twister room (a room where you play Twister, obvioulsy), a photo booth, and all sorts of fun things in a non-pandemic world. My room, at $135 USD a night, was fine for a New York City hotel price.

The Scottish pyramid hidden in the Highlands

Back in 1852, Prince Albert (the beloved husband of Queen Victoria) purchased the castle and estate from the Farquharson family. Throughout Queen Victoria’s life, following their purchase of Balmoral, she began to erect stone cairns to commemorate the marriages of her children, and eventually the death of her beloved husband, Prince Albert. You don’t need to buy a ticket to Balmoral Castle in order to visit the Prince Albert Cairn – or any of the other cairns honestly. You don’t have to do the full loop – the pièce de résistance (Prince Albert Cairn) is not the last cairn you see on this loop.

Glenegedale House on Islay

Over the summer when I visited Islay, Scotland’s glorious whisky island, I spent 5 delicious nights at Glenegedale House. And for a place to win an award specific to its hospitality, well, let’s just say I put a little mental note in my brain to visit and stay at Glenegedale House sometime in the near future! Let’s have a bit of a recap: When you go stay at Glenegedale House, you get the full experience of hospitality, including someone making you fresh baked goods 24-7. Located in between Glenegedale House and Port Ellen, it’s a nice afternoon hike out to the cliffs and the American Monument.

The Covid-19 Spit Test: An Honest Review

Saliva-based tests (or the covid-19 spit test, as I like to call them) for coronavirus testing have also recently been approved. On November 13, 2020, the State of California issued a travel advisory which stated: Persons arriving in California from other states or countries, including returning California residents, should practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival. And, luckily and thankfully, Albertsons Pharmacy now offers COVID-19 spit tests, which can be done almost entirely by mail! Given that many states have voluntary or mandatory self isolation / quarantine (varying between 10 – 14 days), taking the at home covid test “released me” from quarantine a few days early.

Let’s file this under places I wish I’d spent more time in. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
