Facts about Strasbourg Not only is Strasbourg important in France, but it is also a European center This is probably the reason most people already know Strasbourg in Europe. Though the city is not that big nor populated compared to the rest of the major cities in France, it is home to the European Parliament, and is considered to be one of the 3 European capitals, alongside Brussels and Luxembourg. There are also the Council of Europe, the Eurocorps and the European Court of Human Rights in the city. Strasbourg is geographically far from Paris, but it is very fast to go there from the capital In case you are planning to travel to France, you will most probably head to Paris first. That’s perfect, because that means that you can reach Strasbourg in no time. Though almost 500 kilometers / 300 miles separate the French and the European capital, the TGV (French train) will only take around 1h40-2h for this trip!

They say good things take time that’s why I’m always late. Anyway here's a picture of me at Strasbourg christmas market in December sipping muled wine, complaining about the gloomy day but still trying to strike a pose 😊 #ipreview via preview.app

Starting this year with The Queen of Egypt 👑 - The last ruler of the Macedonian dynasty, Cleopatra VII Thea. Both Roman military leaders Julius Caesar and Mark Antony were mesmerized by her charisma and power and fought over her for years. Cleopatra's life inspired William Shakespeare's play Antony and Cleopatra. When I think of Cleopatra I instantly recall the famous 1963 movie starring Elizabeth Taylor. This gorgeous design is rachnadesigns work of art, she paid so much attention to every detail - the jewelry, the colours, so you can experience true antique egyptian culture. Merry Christmas to all my friends who celebrate it 🎄🌟☃️🎉

SNFC- one of the most efficient, comfortable and user-friendly railway systems in the world. Staff are generally courteous and helpful, and its trains – for the most part, fast, clean and reliable – continue, in spite of the closure of some rural lines, to serve most of the country. Pride and joy of the French rail system is the high-speed TGV (train à grande vitesse), capable of speeds of up to 300kph, and its offspring Eurostar. The continually expanding TGV network has its main hub in Paris, from where main lines head north to Lille, east to Strasbourg and two head south. Bookable online only, iDTGV trains compete with low-cost airlines and have quiet areas, a bar, facilities to watch DVDs and play computer games. Available on routes to more than 30 destinations from Paris including Bordeaux, Mulhouse, Marseille, Nice, Perpignan, Toulouse, Strasbourg and Hendaye, travel times can be changed for an additional fee.  Intercité is the catch-all brand name for trains providing intercity services on routes not yet upgraded to TGV. Though not as fast, they have decent facilities including restaurant cars. Intercité sleeper services link Paris, Toulouse, the Alps and the south. Local services are covered by TER regional express trains. Eg. Ter train ticket from Strasbourg to Colmar costs around 15€. Tickets can be bought online or at train stations (gare SNCF). If you have language problems or there are long queues at the counter, note that touch-screen vending machines with instructions in English sell tickets for express services in most stations; separate vending machines for regional (TER) services have basic English labelling.

The croissant was actually invented in Austria France might be the spiritual home of the croissant, but the pastry actually began its days in Austria. The kipferl – ancestor of the croissant, born in the coffee shops of Vienna in the 13th century – was the original crescent-shaped morning sweet. Made of a denser and less flaky dough, the kipferl later crossed the border to France and became the famous croissant.

𝘼𝙡𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙞𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙂𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝 Its capital is Strasbourg, the largest city. It changed hands between France and Germany many times. The people living there had an attitude and set of social values that was closer to the German ones, than the French. Language, cuisine, music, dress and customs were Germanic, and very close to the ones across the Rhine. The overall culture was generally more German than French, being somewhere between German and French. Alsace was part of the Holy Roman Empire.

So we went "just a few" souvenirs shopping and ended up with a bag full of magnets, key chains, soap boxes, hats, beanies, christmas socks, metal plates with beautiful scenery of alsace and chocolate boxes. Advice to myself: bring bigger suitcase next time. I was scared that nobody here would speak English to someone who never bother to learn a few French words but I was wrong. People were very nice and kind, and they cared to explain everything we needed help with. I am still determined to learn French though. Tip: Strasbourg was cheaper than Alsace, buy souvenirs/clothes there. You can buy 3 magnets/keychains/snowballs for 10€ or 4€ each. Berets/beanies costed 15€.

What to expect at French Christmas markets? Chocolat! Lots of it, every kind of it 🍫 And it's really good. Also cookies! If you are on a diet or any kind of regime, skip Christmas markets. Or, if you are like me, skip diet for a few days, because CHOCOLAT 😍 What do you usually buy when you visit Christmas markets?

Colmar is exceedingly walkable. At the center of the city you have the main train station, and all of the sights of the old town are within a mile walk. Basically, you can walk the entire city in half a day. Of course, you should spend more time there, so you can properly visit the museums and enjoy the charm of Colmar. The main place to be is the Grand Rue, and three of the five markets in town during the holidays are located along a 600 meter stretch. And oh those gift shops 😍
