Empowering a balanced lifestyle between living healthy and living abundantly.
I focus on informing others that food is meant to be enjoyed without sacrificing living a healthy lifestyle. Using myself as an example, I show you can travel and attend local events without fear that you're falling off-track of your diet or workout plan.
I’ve put a lot of announcements on hold for the past several months out of empathy for others and what everyone is going through. 𝘐’𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬. I don’t expect others to have done the exact same actions as I did, but I hope that at least the thought crossed their minds. Maybe I took some of these too sensitively & was not putting myself first enough. 🤷♀️ Honestly, I don’t 💯 know my reasoning for sharing, other than that I feel I didn’t “show up” on social & wanted to share why. 1️⃣ When gyms closed - I had just received AMAZING pics from an in-gym photoshoot (𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 @𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘵!). I decided to postpone those. It simply didn’t sit well with me to share as people lost their primary form of physical activity, canceled meets, etc. 2️⃣ Same timing as above, I saw a post say something like, “If you’re maintaining a full time job, please stop doing live workouts for free & open that space to those who have lost their income” I heard that & followed. 3️⃣ As people found outdoor-means of physical activity, I was turning around to the idea of posting again. Then the tragic death of George Floyd happened and I was definitely going to pause to amplify BIPOC voices over my own. During this time, I’ve been silently 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 beyond being a competitor in powerlifting or #fitspo. As a marketing professional first, figuring that out has been slow moving with the time left in the evenings. But it's moving. I’m excited to start sharing more. Stay tuned ✌️ #girlswhopowerlift #powerlifting #meanmug #usapl #powerliftingwomen #barbell #squatrack #squatbenchdeadlift #gwpl #powerbuilding #liftheavy #juggernaut #chadbot #grmi #grandrapidsmi #grfitness
𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁: 𝟮𝟯𝟱𝗹𝗯𝘀 𝘅 𝟰 @ 𝗥𝗣𝗘𝟭𝟬 (𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘗𝘌𝟿) 🔙 7 months ago, I recorded a 1RM deadlift of 235lbs. ✔️ Today, I did that for 4 full reps! (While also weighing 20 lbs less) If I had some chalk on my hands, I definitely would of had another 10lbs. 😤 I find this 7 month increase a big deal because that includes ~𝟮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳 due to covid closing gyms AND having 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. ‼️ P.S. I’ve already gotten a lot of feedback on my form and thought I’d share it here to make sure I’m not influencing anyone to follow my lead 😂 1️⃣ I sort of forgot the deadlift is a hip hinge 😅. While trying to correct some back rounding recently, I accidentally conditioned myself into a starting position that more resembles a snatch or clean start position. I’m going to keep working on my optimal start position by raising my hips. I don’t want to be squatting my deadlift lol. 2️⃣ With that 👆, I’ll also get my knees more out of the way to keep the bar positions over my feet more. 3️⃣ I got called out for deadlifting in runners. 🤭 I want to put myself as close to the floor as I can. I’ll start training in my vans. I also just got some slippers from @a7intl , so we’ll see how that transition goes! Crazy how easily form can break as you go up in weight AND/OR when you try to over-correct yourself. Make sure to video yourself often folks, or get a coach that includes occasional form check-ins. #juggernaut #jugglife #chadbot #homegym #usapl #powerlifting #deadlift #garagegym #girlswhopowerlift #grandrapidsmi #grfitness #grmi #demandgreatness #personalbest
𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 🙂 One day, we took a different route for our walk. It was forest-y and shady. We critiqued large houses we can’t afford. We breathed in fresh air. We sweat and got forehead tans. We took water breaks on bridges. The puppers did his somersaults in the cool grass. It was so nice to enjoy something new and it was boosting my mood. 🥰 And then I looked at my watch. “Only 2.5 miles??? 😑 Only 6000 steps???” Good mood squashed. I regret dismissing that nice experience. I can’t believe I cared more about the exercise aspect - how quickly I forgot the past hour. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸, 𝗵𝗶𝗸𝗲, 𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲? Not because of metrics. Not because you should burn more calories today. Or, to make up for that extra snack. Nowadays, our walks are watch-free. We base whether we want to walk further on the weather, our body stiffness, our mental-state. If you can relate to my story, I encourage you to try a day or two without. Tracking metrics is a-okay - but don’t lose deeper purpose. 💕 #gooutside #activeoutdoors #gothefuckoutside #hikelocal #puremichigan #dogwalks #outdoorfitness #outdoorworkout #dogsofgr #grfitness #grmi #grandrapidsmi
Thought I’d reintroduce myself on here - 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Hey, I’m Jessica. I’ve been lifting since 2011, but majority of that was bodybuilding style with lots of hypertrophy. I took 3yrs off of lifting, and finally got back into it 1 year ago. I decided to get into powerlifting about 7 months ago. My starting stats were: 🔘 S: 225# / B: 140# / D: 235# @ 84KG+ 🔘 My federation of choice is @usapowerlifting , raw. 🔘 #JuggernautAI Powerlifting is my programming. 🔘 I manage my own nutrition with brain gainz from @biolayne and @rpstrength I was SO ready for my first meet in March 2020, but it got canceled. ☹️ 🔘 My (new) first meet is scheduled for August 22. 🔘 I hope to compete in the 85KG weight class. 🔘 If I were to compete tomorrow, I’m trending to start all lift openers at least 𝟮𝟬# 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘀. Okay now for some fun facts: 🔘 My favorite lift is the deadlift, bc it’s not “scary" to me. 🔘 I’m most determined to increase my bench. 🔘 My fave brands are @girlswhopowerlift , @sbd.usa , and @a7intl 🔘 I plan to work on olympic lifts during off seasons. 🔘 If I had to eliminate 1 equipment, I’d pick belt or wrist wraps 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻. What I use to fuel workouts, maintain/build muscle, and recover better. 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁: 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼 - 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 @𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 Pro tip: Keep it simple. Skip the bloating powder and caffeine pills. If you don’t like black coffee, then I guess you could buy those, but pick one with less added ingredients that are only adding to the cost, not adding to your workout. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁: 𝟭𝟬𝗴 @𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗿 + 𝟭𝟯𝗴 @𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝘆 + 𝟭𝟬𝗼𝘇 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 I’ve just started implementing intra-workout drinks thanks to some brain gainz from @rpstrength, and feel that my training and recovery have improved immensely. There’s so much to be said about intra-workouts, but to summarize, you want simple carbs (like sugars), sodium, and some protein. 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢-𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘰𝘶𝘵. 𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 🧠 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘫𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘻. 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁: 𝟭 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝘆 + 𝟴𝗼𝘇 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗺 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗸 This one is probably the most optional for me and for others. I take it bc I end my workouts after 9 PM and I would rather have something than nothing before bed. Having calories after a workout will help with recovery. So if you have breakfast, lunch, or dinner after your workout, you’re good to go. I also take it to help hit my protein goals to help maintain muscle while losing weight. Let me know if you have any questions about nutrition or meal timing around training. As an advocate for physical and mental health, I’d like to encourage those who are actively protesting to take occasional breaks. What you are doing takes so much strength and energy. You need to recharge in order to continue standing. Physically: 💧 It’s been hotter temps lately, remember to hydrate. 👟 You’ve been marching, rest your feet. ✊ You’ve been raising posters, fists in the air, walking, and standing, please stretch or do yoga 🌬 Your heart is heavy, open your chest and research calming breathing exercises. . ❗️Important note: it’s common for our body to hold onto trauma and stress. If while releasing body tension, should you feel like crying - please allow yourself to. It’s healthy to release emotions.❗️ . Mentally: 💥 You’ve been in chaos, sit in total silence for a bit. 🛑 You’ve been exhaustively educating, set boundaries or temporarily disable your DMs. 📵 You’ve been consuming, turn off your phone and news for at least one hour at a time. 💭 You’ve been listening, meditate and quiet your mind for 10 mins. Please attempt at least one of these ideas. Your efforts are best articulated when you are in your best health. Commit to me in the comments which one of these you will do today, so I can see you well as we continue to fight injustice. #justiceforgeorgefloyd
I noticed some body positive + fitness bloggers with username's including the word “fat.” Names like fit fat and X, fat to fit, etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Majority of these girls who call themselves both fat + fit end up having figures that: 🔘 have defined upper ab lines/still can see ribcage 🔘 need to lean over or sit in order to show rolls 🔘 need to jump in dances in order to show jiggle 🔘 fit the standard unsupportive S, M, or L bralette ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Girl, if this is what you and society consider “fat,” we have a problem. 🤨 But that definition rant is for another time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Unfortunately, there’s still a standard that larger women are being held to in order to be considered a “beautiful or acceptable fat woman.” Look at top influential “body-positive” bloggers and curvy brands' catalogs, you’ll rarely find an exceedingly popular curvy woman that doesn’t have the perfect pear shape. Still small enough up top to fit standard bras, blouses, and swim tops so brands don’t need to tailor the most difficult part of the body... But round enough at the bottom to fit into stretchy jeans/leggings that appeals to today’s obsession with larger butts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want all women to know that no matter where you “hold it,” you are beautiful. You don’t need to have obvious toned body parts to be considered fit. If you work out consistently in your own way, you are already more fit than the 75%-ish of Americans that don’t hit the recommended physical activity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know it’s hard to believe, bc we are always comparing ourselves to who we end up following for motivation. When your feed is 90% smaller figures and daily workout posts, it’s easy to assume you’re not “enough." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trust me, your own consistency is the only thing you need to compare yourself to day to day. Do that, and you’ll hit any kind of personal goals no problem. _ #bodypositive #bopo #fatandfit #fitandfat #haes #healthateverysize #findyourbalance #grmi #grandrapids #grandrapidsmi #westmi #girlswhopowerlift #gwpl #powerlifting #womensfitness #womenshealth
I am an ally! ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏻🏳️🌈 I fight next to minorities for their human rights and stand against the injustice they endure. Right now, the main stage belongs to BIPOC, and as their ally, I will do what it takes to help keep the spotlight on them. Sign petitions, show up to vote, donate, and more. The actions you can take to help are there, in your IG stories, on your Fb feed. You know exactly what to do. I understand if you don’t know what to say. I recognize I will never understand what POC go through, but I listen and respect their experiences. If you find yourself struggling to understand, know that it starts with empathy and removing prejudice. No matter how small or large the discomfort your minority friends feel, those feelings are valid. From, “I feel like I’m getting the side-eye,” to “I feel like I might get murdered.” Those and everything in between are valid. Listen to them, believe them, acknowledge them. #BlackLivesMatter. Racism exists and it is not to be ignored or passed over. Rise against it. Pride month also starts today and I will be doing all the same for the #lgbtq🌈 community during this time. Band together!
𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁! 🥳 This month last year, I finally broke my unintentional 3-year streak of skipping the gym. 😅 To others, this might be a silly thing to celebrate, but for me, it’s huge. I started working towards strength & physique goals back in 2011. The list of things exercise has done for me is too long, including happiness, independence, femininity, & health. Understandably, not working out for so long reversed some of those things for me. While it felt like betrayal, for my mind & body to refuse consistent physical activity, I’m glad that hiatus happened. 🤭 Lifting 2011-2017 was not all 🌈 & 🦄. A number of goals were made & met out of self-hatred & insecurities. It really took 3 years, hitting my highest weight, getting some health-scaries, & a lot of mental reflection to achieve a positive mindset change towards my “WHY” for working out & eating well. Joining a strength-focused gym & community, rather than a commercial gym, is what let me finally pivot back into fitness for good. (Thank you @d1grandrapids 💕) Prioritizing strength goals, rather than physique goals, is what kept me going. A few wise people have been touting how “motivation” is bullshit. I agree. 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗯𝗰 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. You need a solid “why” & have the unwavering commitment to your health. Health doesn’t hit a peak & then just stays there. Work on yourself physically & mentally every day. 💪 #strengthtraining #strengthandconditioning #fitnessjourney #weightlossjourney #motivation #girlswhopowerlift #powerlifting #usapl #bodybuilding #hypertrophy #powerliftingwomen #barbell #squatrack #squatbenchdeadlift #gwpl #powerbuilding #liftheavy #juggernaut #chadbot #grmi #grandrapidsmi #grfitness
