Iโ€™ve already gotten a lot of feedback on my form and thought Iโ€™d share it here to make sure Iโ€™m not influencing anyone to follow my lead ๐Ÿ˜‚ โฃ โฃ 1๏ธโƒฃ I sort of forgot the deadlift is a hip hinge ๐Ÿ˜…. While trying to correct some back rounding recently, I accidentally conditioned myself into a starting position that more resembles a snatch or clean start position. Iโ€™m going to keep working on my optimal start position by raising my hips. I donโ€™t want to be squatting my deadlift lol.โฃ 2๏ธโƒฃ With that ๐Ÿ‘†, Iโ€™ll also get my knees more out of the way to keep the bar positions over my feet more.โฃ 3๏ธโƒฃ I got called out for deadlifting in runners. ๐Ÿคญ I want to put myself as close to the floor as I can. I take it bc I end my workouts after 9 PM and I would rather have something than nothing before bed. Having calories after a workout will help with recovery. So if you have breakfast, lunch, or dinner after your workout, youโ€™re good to go. You need to recharge in order to continue standing. Physically: ๐Ÿ’ง Itโ€™s been hotter temps lately, remember to hydrate. ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Youโ€™ve been marching, rest your feet. โœŠ Youโ€™ve been raising posters, fists in the air, walking, and standing, please stretch or do yoga ๐ŸŒฌ Your heart is heavy, open your chest and research calming breathing exercises. . โ—๏ธImportant note: itโ€™s common for our body to hold onto trauma and stress. If while releasing body tension, should you feel like crying - please allow yourself to. Itโ€™s healthy to release emotions.โ—๏ธ . Mentally: ๐Ÿ’ฅ Youโ€™ve been in chaos, sit in total silence for a bit. ๐Ÿ›‘ Youโ€™ve been exhaustively educating, set boundaries or temporarily disable your DMs. ๐Ÿ“ต Youโ€™ve been consuming, turn off your phone and news for at least one hour at a time. ๐Ÿ’ญ Youโ€™ve been listening, meditate and quiet your mind for 10 mins. I noticed some body positive + fitness bloggers with username's including the word โ€œfat.โ€ Names like fit fat and X, fat to fit, etc. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € Majority of these girls who call themselves both fat + fit end up having figures that: ๐Ÿ”˜ have defined upper ab lines/still can see ribcage ๐Ÿ”˜ need to lean over or sit in order to show rolls ๐Ÿ”˜ need to jump in dances in order to show jiggle ๐Ÿ”˜ fit the standard unsupportive S, M, or L bralette โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € Girl, if this is what you and society consider โ€œfat,โ€ we have a problem. ๐Ÿคจ But that definition rant is for another time. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € Unfortunately, thereโ€™s still a standard that larger women are being held to in order to be considered a โ€œbeautiful or acceptable fat woman.โ€ Look at top influential โ€œbody-positiveโ€ bloggers and curvy brands' catalogs, youโ€™ll rarely find an exceedingly popular curvy woman that doesnโ€™t have the perfect pear shape. Still small enough up top to fit standard bras, blouses, and swim tops so brands donโ€™t need to tailor the most difficult part of the body... But round enough at the bottom to fit into stretchy jeans/leggings that appeals to todayโ€™s obsession with larger butts. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € I want all women to know that no matter where you โ€œhold it,โ€ you are beautiful. You donโ€™t need to have obvious toned body parts to be considered fit. If you work out consistently in your own way, you are already more fit than the 75%-ish of Americans that donโ€™t hit the recommended physical activity. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € I know itโ€™s hard to believe, bc we are always comparing ourselves to who we end up following for motivation. When your feed is 90% smaller figures and daily workout posts, itโ€™s easy to assume youโ€™re not โ€œenough." โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € Trust me, your own consistency is the only thing you need to compare yourself to day to day. Right now, the main stage belongs to BIPOC, and as their ally, I will do what it takes to help keep the spotlight on them. Sign petitions, show up to vote, donate, and more. The actions you can take to help are there, in your IG stories, on your Fb feed. You know exactly what to do. I understand if you donโ€™t know what to say. I recognize I will never understand what POC go through, but I listen and respect their experiences. If you find yourself struggling to understand, know that it starts with empathy and removing prejudice. No matter how small or large the discomfort your minority friends feel, those feelings are valid. From, โ€œI feel like Iโ€™m getting the side-eye,โ€ to โ€œI feel like I might get murdered.โ€ Those and everything in between are valid. ๐—–๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐Ÿญ ๐˜†๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ธ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐˜! ๐Ÿฅณโฃ โฃ This month last year, I finally broke my unintentional 3-year streak of skipping the gym. ๐Ÿ˜…โฃ โฃ To others, this might be a silly thing to celebrate, but for me, itโ€™s huge. I started working towards strength & physique goals back in 2011. The list of things exercise has done for me is too long, including happiness, independence, femininity, & health.โฃ โฃ Understandably, not working out for so long reversed some of those things for me. While it felt like betrayal, for my mind & body to refuse consistent physical activity, Iโ€™m glad that hiatus happened. ๐Ÿคญโฃ โฃ Lifting 2011-2017 was not all ๐ŸŒˆ & ๐Ÿฆ„. A number of goals were made & met out of self-hatred & insecurities. It really took 3 years, hitting my highest weight, getting some health-scaries, & a lot of mental reflection to achieve a positive mindset change towards my โ€œWHYโ€ for working out & eating well.โฃ โฃ Joining a strength-focused gym & community, rather than a commercial gym, is what let me finally pivot back into fitness for good. (Thank you @d1grandrapids ๐Ÿ’•) Prioritizing strength goals, rather than physique goals, is what kept me going.โฃ โฃ A few wise people have been touting how โ€œmotivationโ€ is bullshit. I agree. ๐——๐—ผ๐—ปโ€™๐˜ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜† ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, ๐—ฏ๐—ฐ ๐—ถ๐˜ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ปโ€™๐˜ ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜†๐˜€ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ. You need a solid โ€œwhyโ€ & have the unwavering commitment to your health. Health doesnโ€™t hit a peak & then just stays there.
