(Share if you need this pep talk today.) I don’t know about you but I’m the mom that apologizes to my kids for being an &ss. You know those scenes in the movies where a mom is in a public place (like, let’s say, I don’t know, a book store perhaps) and she’s slowly unraveling and loses her mind because she’s overwhelmed with parenting and she tries to explain how she’s not crazy to the barista in the bookstore and swears she’s fine (and cursing while keeping her voice low but obviously she’s mad because she’s talking through her teeth) and she’s talking a mile a minute and the three baristas behind the counter are looking at her like she’s certifiable (with blank stares and eyes wide open) and the mom just knows that later that day the baristas are gonna ask to see the store’s camera footage just so they can laugh at the not-so-crazy (but she really is crazy) mom? 🤪 It’s me. Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️. I won’t tell you what bookstore because I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to show my face there again but I had to give myself words of encouragement. YOU’RE A GOOD MOM! The most random and unexpected thing happened to me today…on Valentines Day. ❤️ A friend texted me a Facebook ad saying, “at a quick glance I thought this was you and Samer lol.” I saw it and thought, “um, that is me and Sam!” I hadn’t seen the photo but I recognized that it was from a cousin’s pre-wedding (sahra) party and the photo was used to promote the photographer’s engagement promotion. I had two thoughts in my head: the first was, “wow, they used a photo of two Palestinians repping their cultural clothing, that’s really cool!” And my second thought was, “wow, after 12 married years a candid shot of us shows how in love we are. So much so that it was used as an ad. Now that’s pretty cool.” Even though I’ve never been a Valentine’s person, the fact that this ONE moment was caught and used as a promotion to pitch happy couples gave me all the feels.
