Highlights

My goal for this year is to share more easy ways to make an impact that don’t require a lot of time or money. There are so many ways to do this, but we’ll start with these 3! 1) At the beginning of every year, I go through and unsubscribe to every email list that I no longer want to be a part of. About halfway through the year, I do the same. It makes my inbox more manageable and helps reduce the amount of emails I’m storing. 2) Support sustainable accounts and companies! If you can’t make a purchase, even just engaging with their content will help them bring in more people and increase their reach. Some of my favorites include @bareelementsllc , @elliotreidboutique , @taystcoffee , @addjoi to name a few 😊 3) Make your voice heard! There are so many petitions and pre-written letters (feel free to customize) that you can sign & send to your local officials around environmental advocacy. #Ecofriendly #eco #zerowaste #zerowasteliving #wastefree #wastefreeliving #sustainable #sustainability #sustainableliving #zerowastekitchen #zerowastehome #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastetips #zerowastelife #zerowastejourney #zerowastefood #environmentalist

This week’s library haul! 📚 Lady Tan’s Circle of Women was one of my favorite books of 2023, so I’m excited to read another book by Lisa See! The worst part of being a plant owner: moving 😅 I’ve been off this account for the last few weeks moving into a new home and getting all of these dang plants moved over. The new house has a garden, so I’m super excited to share my gardening journey come springtime 😊 any advice for a gal living in zone 6?? #houseplants #houseplantclub #houseplantsofinstagram #houseplant #houseplantcommunity #houseplantlove #houseplantsmakemehappy #plants #ecofriendly #zerowaste

In for 2024: carrying around reusables Out for 2024: forgetting them in the car 😅 What types of items do you always keep on you? My #1 item is my silicone straw that comes with me everywhere. (I promise I wash it) Aside from that, I always have my @britausa water bottle in my backpack, along with a @stasherbag packed with snacks 🫐 #Ecofriendly #eco #zerowaste #zerowasteliving #wastefree #wastefreeliving #sustainable #sustainability #sustainableliving #zerowastekitchen #zerowastehome #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastetips #zerowastelife #zerowastejourney #zerowastefood #ny #nyc #nycblogger

Do you recognize the brands that belong to any of these caps? All of these were found washed up on the shores of the Hudson River #Ecofriendly #eco #zerowaste #zerowasteliving #wastefree #wastefreeliving #sustainable #sustainability #sustainableliving #zerowastekitchen #zerowastehome #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastetips #zerowastelife #zerowastejourney #zerowastefood #ny #nyc

Is there anything better than a little free library? (no) Was so happy to see this one pop up in White Plains and came away with a new book that I’m excited to read 😊 I’ve absolutely fallen back in love with reading this year and access to great books through public libraries and little free libraries has been a huge part of that. #littlefreelibrary #littlefreelibraries #littlefreelibrariesofinstagram #book #bookstagram #books #booklover #readmorebooks #reading

Hot take: winter vegetables are my favorite. There’s something so cozy about cauliflower, leeks, carrots, onions… I love it. Things I picked up on my walk today: plastic bottles, bottle caps, pieces of string, fishing line, styrofoam, coffee lids, plastic bags What type of litter do you see most often? For me it’s usually the single-use flossers, but today it was by far bottle caps 🙃 #plogging #litter #trashwalk #Ecofriendly #eco #zerowaste #zerowasteliving #wastefree #wastefreeliving #sustainable #sustainability #sustainableliving #zerowastekitchen #zerowastehome #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastetips #zerowastelife #zerowastejourney

I have been on a banana bread kick lately, which is perfect since I have like 10+ bananas in my freezer at all times 🍌 I also do this with berries, chopped peppers and onions, and tomatoes. As someone who is only cooking for one, sometimes it’s hard to use up all of my produce. This is a great solution to keep them longer and use them again when you’re ready! Do you do this? #Ecofriendly #eco #zerowaste #zerowasteliving #wastefree #wastefreeliving #sustainable #sustainability #sustainableliving #zerowastekitchen #zerowastehome #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastetips #zerowastelife #zerowastejourney #zerowastefood #ny #nyc #nycblogger

How to Live a Zero Waste Lifestyle

When you start your journey of transitioning to a zero waste lifestyle, you may feel tempted to buy all of the fun zero waste alternatives. Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Repurpose, and if all else fails, Recycle While it’s better than trash, recycling should not be the goal when going zero waste. If you must buy items, try to avoid single-use items or anything with plastic packaging. Once you have used up the single-use items in your home, you can start purchasing reusable or eco-friendly replacements.

Zero Waste or Recycling? What is the True Difference?

If you are recycling items and not throwing them away, is that zero waste? Instead of single-use or short-term items, those of us living zero waste lifestyles opt for items that can be continuously reused. While composting is the best alternative to food waste, and something many zero waste individuals use, there are some other ways you can reduce your food waste. To get started on your zero waste journey, check out month one in our guide to going zero waste.
