The Easiest Way to Take Pictures of Yourself as a Solo Traveler

I’ve been in your shoes and I’ve learned a thing or two about solo travel photography that I’m more than happy to share with you. You’ll want to set it up, look at the potential shot through your camera phone, get into the potential shot yourself and snap some test shots if you’re able until you get it positioned just right. If you happen to be traveling with someone (who isn’t the most patient or artistic when it comes to taking photos) you can enlist their help to simply guard or hold the tripod once you’ve down the hard work of framing the shot. Once you’ve framed your shot, it’s time to add yourself in the mix and snap some good pictures of yourself to share with friends, family and followers!

Image by @austinchanning worth going to her page and reading her caption on this on her feed. ⁣⁣ Sharing my own thoughts below: ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ There’s a balance between sharing quotes and resources to raise awareness on social, and taking individual, sustained action toward real change. Long-term. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As a non-black POC I have my own set of privileges to examine and leverage for what is right. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I don’t have all the right words to say or resources to recommend or actions to take. But I have the ability to do my homework and open myself up to make mistakes and be humbled along the way for something that matters much more than my pride or “comfort”. #blacklivesmatter ⁣ ⁣ Some accounts I’ve been following: ⁣ @theconsciouskid⁣ @southasians4blacklives⁣ @rachel.cargle ⁣ @sonyareneetaylor ⁣ @laylafsaad⁣

𝐈𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨⁣⁣⁣ 🍋 You look at me, in the land of sweet sun and lemons ⁣⁣⁣ Joyous — my explorer heart alive and curious— and see only your own dark insecurities reflected back.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ You shout at them, there on the charming cobbled path⁣⁣⁣ Giving passing souls a feel for the disharmony born of us, While I hold my breath against it. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Suddenly, the sun too hot and lemons soured, ⁣⁣⁣ I’m emptied in a place that once quenched me so full⁣⁣⁣ I didn’t thirst again for years.

Last night, not for lack of effort, I only slept about an hour or an hour and a half. I was in place, eyes closed. I don’t know why sleep would not come to me, only that it did not until recently. Until the last hour or hour and a half. ⁣ ⁣ And somehow, as I lay here feeling sorry for the repair time my brain and body did not receive and hoping they’ll get me through the day alright, somehow this thought occurs to me: my life has been this in reverse.⁣ ⁣ Of the last three decades, not for lack of effort, I’ve only been awakened for about a year or year and a half. I was going through the motions, eyes open. I don’t know why the awakening didn’t come sooner, only that it did not until recently. Until the last year or year and a half of my life. ⁣ ⁣ And there, I won’t sleep again.

Hard to believe only a few months ago I was having lunch at this beautiful place with great company. ⁣ ⁣ I remember when I first started traveling, I’d come home with hundreds of photos and dump them all into a Facebook album lol. ⁣ ⁣ Friends would comment, asking if I really needed that many photos. Others would say, enjoy the moment more. Guess what? You can do both 💙 ⁣ ⁣ I’ve always loved looking back through my travel photos, it helps facilitate my nostalgic indulgences. And now more than ever, I’m grateful for a very full camera roll 😊 ⁣ ⁣ How often do you look back through your travel photos ?

11 Rookie Mistakes to Avoid in Denver, Colorado

It’s just like rush hour traffic in a city, except concentrated on two lane highways (one lane each direction) with a cliff drop off one one side and a rocky mountain on the other. B. Now, don’t let that rule out visiting the mountains if it’s something you’re interested in doing. (Denver’ most loved diner), The Buckhorn Exchange (Denver’s first restaurant), Elway’s (owned by John Elway himself), or Linger (Denver hot spot). Therefore, if you want to explore outside of downtown Denver (which you should), it’s likely you will either need to rent a car, or take a significant amount of ride share services.

When’s the last time you felt the fear and did it anyway? What did it feel like? How did you push through? Asking for a friend...⁣ ⁣ While I’m not traveling, these months alone at home have involved no shortage of exploration. Perhaps even more of it than ever. ⁣ ⁣ I’m exploring my likes/dislikes, my core values. Sometimes I’m daring enough to catch glimpses of my wildest dreams. But most of all I’m exploring my intuition and creativity.⁣ ⁣ Both, I’ve neglected in the past. Both have scared and confused me. And that’s my goal with this exploration, paying attention and facing the fears to overcome them. ⁣ ⁣ Easier said than done. But in this exact moment I’m reminded of one of my sister’s fave quotes: “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing at all.”⁣ ⁣ What are you making of yours these days?

Happy weekend from this #latergram of the cheese danish I’ve now made twice in social distancing land, using a recipe by @laurens_latest ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The second time, I added some overripe, crushed strawberries and cut down on the sugar — ahhhmaze 😋 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ What’s the best thing you’ve baked while social distancing??⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In other news if you’re subscribed to my newsletter check your email this morning. I’m announcing a new project that’s in its early stages 🤫

The Ultimate Denver Bachelorette Party Itinerary

Leading up to my sister’s wedding, she knew she wanted to celebrate her bachelorette party at a destination that was equal parts great food and great outdoors. Colorado We booked this Airbnb for our Denver bachelorette party and it was perfect for our group of 6. I’d bought all the girls these adorable bachelorette fanny packs and filled them with assorted goodies ranging from mints and hair ties to advil and fruit snacks (the bride’s favorite). Check out the San Diego Bachelorette Party Itinerary or New Orleans Bachelorette Party Itinerary posts for more inspiration!

As much as I miss views like this (and was supposed to be on a flight today) I’m happy Mother Earth gets some peace and rest from us fools this year 🤣 And for anyone who has ever scoffed at someone for taking window seat shots like this bc, “what’s so special we’ve seen it a million times they all look the same,” here’s another reminder to not take things for granted. And not to judge those who don’t 💙

24 Hours in Essaouira: Best Things to do in Essaouira, Morocca for a Day

Fortunately, the city didn’t disappoint, with it’s spacious medina, grand coastal fortifications, atmospheric fishing port and modern beachfront bars and restaurants. Essaouira,’ which literally means ‘the beautifully designed,’ with the old town home to the only pre-planned medina (market area) layout of any city in Morocco. This gives the place a unique feel, with the streets of the old town feeling pleasantly spacious and a lot less claustrophobic than other famous ancient Moroccan medinas, such as that of Marrakesh or Fes. The shops of Essaouira are, in my experience, generally very competitively priced in comparison to some of the other more tourist visited cities of Morocco, making it a great place to pick up some souvenirs or gifts for people back home.

Current mood: hop on and go anywhere 🛵 Where would you go right now if you could?

Not 𝐬𝐨 lucky and not 𝐬𝐨 sad. Not 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 lonely nor 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 fulfilled. The quiet can soothe and the silence can deafen. I breathe in the lightness and counter regression. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ On stories this weekend I polled you all about your social distancing situation — are you riding solo or do you have human companionship? ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s the former for me and while that has its ups and downs I’m leaning all the way hell into it. What else is there to do? There’s no shortage of self reflection over here on a typical day but under current circumstances I find I’m learning even more about myself. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Like the hopes I minimize for fear they won’t come to fruition and the questions I thought I’d answered but in reality still feel conflicted about. You know, light stuff 🤣 ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Whatever your situation I hope you’re able to enjoy the good and breathe through the rough. There’s something for everyone in this — some learning, opportunity, wake up call, rest, reset, challenge. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ While this experience is a collective one it’s also deeply personal within our individual containers of human 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨. And there’s no right or wrong way to move through it (well, don’t be a jerk). ⁣ ⁣ You do you. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🧡

This not so perfect picture represents one of my favorite memories of Rome 💕⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It wasn’t until my fourth visit to the eternal city that I took a cooking class, yet of all my experiences there this is easily one of the most memorable. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Spent the day shopping and cooking with a sweet American expat, in the gorgeous apartment she shared with her Italian husband. ⁣Swapping stories, ingredients and 🥂 along the way ⁣⁣ ⁣ Happy Sunday from this homemade biscotti a la fresh strawberries🍓⁣ ⁣ 𝘗𝘚.
