‼️LIFE UPDATE‼️ While you may have seen it on various social media platforms, I wanted to formally announce my membership to Circle of Wine Writers. I am absolutely humbled to be a member of the Circle and to get to know such incredible people, as well as continue to fuel the passion I have for wine. A huge thank you to @emily.saladino. Not only did she help with the process, but Emily gave me my very first serious wine byline in @vinepair about Pignoletto. While my writing style has improved since then, I always felt like this was a career-defining piece for me. Also a huge shoutout to @ericaduecy, who also supported me during this! If you don’t know Erica, she is absolutely one of the kindest people in this industry and is always willing to give the next one in line a boost. We also won a wine blending contest, not to brag but… yea, I am full-on bragging. Being in the food and drink industry, I am privy to a lot of great experiences, but this one was absolutely tops. Today, I have a new wine story up on @sevenfiftydaily. It’s about how wine shops are using registry to become more relevant; and to offer younger consumers a service AND an education. It is trend I have been watching since being in the housewares industry and I knew it was growing. I actually pitched it to another site and they passed (after also asking me to do a hearty amount of research, which was annoying). But I BELIEVED in this story so much and I knew it had legs. That’s my theme for this year - to believe in the ideas I have and to keep pushing when I know it can enact positive change. I already had a wine shop reach out to me and tell me this idea was genius and she would be doing one, too. So thank you @takeittocourt @caitmilla for believing in me, this idea and this story. Last year, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting @cakebreadcellars. I took away a lot, but the amount of times the team spoke about magnums and aging left an impression on me. It took a year (almost to the day), but @matthewjkaner let me write about this idea for @mensjournal. I’m a little behind on posting because I feel like it’s time to enter my #QuietGirlEra. I know that as a freelancer, posting is important and ups my profile and visibility. But I’m so down about the state of food and drink media and my roll in it. (Although look around - I’m not the only one pissed off by it.) It made the end of 2023 straight up depressing and also, weirdly, anger inducing. BUT, I was lucky to have been able to visit @slanewhiskey (a full circle moment made at @tales_of_the_cocktail) and spend two days exploring with @tourismireland, thanks to my dear friend @maggieleeq. And being there with some AMAZING people made me realize why I keep torturing myself and pitching even though editors are quiet, half my pitches get written by a staffer a month later and outlets are so focused on e-com or SEO they’re missing STORIES that are dying to be told. However, this year, I’ll hustle but my plan is to hustle quietly. Yes, I’ll post and create content when I am given a gift, but I’m truly feeling the need to step away from showcasing myself. And you know what - I EARNED it.
