I tried a couple times to grow them out like this and then ditch the gel/acrylic once they were long enough, but my nails would just be too weak to last long on their own before breaking. Even though I'd try to salvage the nail with tea bags, nail glue, and a little acrylic powder, I was never able to protect it long enough for the tear to fully grow out and would end up having to chop them. I've tried a lot of different base/top coat combinations, and what I've found to work best is the following (With each coat, make sure to wrap your tips ): Poshe Base Coat 1-3 coats of color to reach desired shade Poshe Base Coat Using a coat of Sally Hansen's "Hard as Wraps" nail strengthener not only makes my nails harder and less likely to break, but it also seems to counteract the SV shrinkage effect.
