The @redcrossnorcalcoastal Gala was such a beautiful event and I was so honored to be there and share our blood story. You can find the full story a few posts back - it ends well: he’s cured of cancer and doing great! 🩸❤️🩸 I’m so inspired by the work the @redcrossnorcalcoastal is doing and I’m so grateful to have been invited to celebrate their work. The communications team and fundraising team at @redcrossnorcalcoastal are the kindest people!! I loved working with them and it felt so special to see all the work they did come together in this beautiful night! The event was at the Pier 27 cruise terminal and the views of the city were breathtaking 🌉 Full disclosure: this gala was way out of our price point for a night out!!! It’s a worthy cause and if I had the budget I’d go every year but that’s not how we roll as a teacher and nonprofit worker 😉 As superficial as this sounds I was so nervous about what to wear!! I grabbed this beautiful outfit from the @sfbaygoodwill - if you haven’t been to the GoodWill Boutique in West Portal you are missing out!! So many high quality brands brand new with tags on for $15-30!!! My husband also got his tux jacket there - it’s a sold choice for when you need something nice on a budget. 💃 Back to blood 🩸 Blood donation has a HUGE IMPACT on so many people - from kids with cancer to moms giving birth so many people need blood and there is a huge shortage! I also learned at during the gala that there are certain conditions where the race of the donor matters - specifically in connection to illnesses in the black community. As a white women I can’t help with that, but maybe, dear dear reader you can? 🩸My next blood donation is scheduled for this Saturday. When will you schedule yours?

I’m heading to DC in mid-April for the @momsrising Mom Power Bootcamp and it has me reminiscing on our epic cross country road trip and our quick stop in DC. 🏛️ Did you know that the White House is a National Park? And you can get a free tour of the East Wing? It requires a bit of planning- you need to contact the office of your Congressperson to request a tour (you used to be able to request through your embassy but according to the Nation Park Service website that is not currently an option). The process takes a minimum of 3 weeks, but there is no harm in sending the request as soon as you know your travel dates. We sent our request in April and received confirmation 2 weeks before our visit in July. The entire tour takes about 30 minutes with fast moving kids who don’t want to read every placard. I was super grateful for the Junior Ranger books because they kept the kids super engaged and excited about each room as they search for various objects. The Park Rangers and staff where super helpful and excited to talk to guests about each room and it’s significance. If your visiting DC I would absolutely recommend scheduling a tour. While we were there we also stopped in front of the Supreme Court it was 2022 and they had just overturned Roe so it was fended off 😡 We also hit up the National Mall in 100 degree heat 🥵 There is so much to do in DC it’s the perfect family vacation destination My shirt reads: Don’t Mess With Trans Kids 🏳️‍⚧️ My daughter’s shirt: Power is the New Pretty 💗 Follow @sarahromontoya for family travel with a bit advocacy mixed in!

🍜Moms Night out at @the_story_of_ramen was so much fun!🍜 Save and share We learned a brief history of ramen before making our own noodles 🇯🇵🇨🇳 They had the broth brewing for hours before we arrived and the pork marinated for days l, but we got to boil our own fresh noodles and use a blow torch on the pork 🔥 The meal was absolutely delicious! Although I made gluten noodles they had gluten free available for me to prepare my meal. The meal comes with ice cream mochi and we ordered sake.🥘 Located in the Mission - it’s an easy walk from 24th Bart and you can usually find street parking 🅿️ Classes start at $70 and cost more for special holidays and popular class times. Make reservations in advance - these classes sell out! 🥢 Follow @sarahromontoya for more things to love in San Francisco ❤️ #sffood #ramenpartysf #cookingclasses #momsnightout #sanfranciscomom #bayareamoms

🧡March is Kidney Cancer Awareness Month🧡 It’s unreal to me that I’m a “cancer mom” I often don’t feel like my experience counts because he was cancer free by the time we got confirmation that it was cancer. But we went through hell the week he was diagnosed and spent 5 years attending screenings to be sure it was gone. He’s had so many MRIs, CTs, x-rays and blood tests I don’t want to count them. So, I guess it’s an accurate title. I cried a few weeks ago when his oncologist told me I don’t have to see him unless I want to - no offense, but I don’t want to. For months we knew something was wrong and everyone kept saying parenting is hard and kids are resilient. No one, not a single person mentioned cancer. That is until I found a lump in his belly and somehow I knew, deep in my soul I knew. I took him in to the doctor and within 24 hours we were being transferred to Stanford and within 48 hours he was in surgery. His kidney had been completely destroyed by the Wilms tumor. It had been bleeding slowly and somehow I didn’t know. He needed a blood transfusion- I remember that so clearly because I hadn’t really even thought about it when they did the paperwork confirming that I was okay with donor blood - I had assumed he wouldn’t need it, but he did. In addition to the doctors and nurses- somewhere out there a stranger gave blood and saved my son’s life. Childhood cancer is dramatically underfunded and under researched. 4% of funding for cancer research goes to kids. 42 kids will be diagnosed with cancer TODAY in the US alone. It’s estimated that over 400,000 around the world will develop cancer and less than half will be diagnosed (St Jude). About 9,620 children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2024. (American Cancer Society) And when it comes to blood donors: only 3% of eligible blood donors give. The blood shortage is costing lives and I’m so grateful it didn’t cost my son his. One of my goals for 2024 is to make sure I give blood every 2 months. I can’t do much to cure cancer but I can help a make sure there is enough blood available for every child to have the blood they need to survive.

🩰One if the things I love about being a mom is how my kids have expanded my world. I never really liked ballet - I knew I was supposed to and it was expected of me, but I never really got it. Then I took my 2 year old to see a free ballet preview at the @sfpubliclibrary and she was obsessed 😍 Six years later I have learned to LOVE the ballet, mostly as I’ve learned to see it through her eyes. I’ll confess it helps that the @sfballet has the most gorgeous set design and choreography. Still I’m so grateful that this child of mine brought me into this world. Today we participated in the Family Dance-along for Midsummer’s Night Dream before heading over to the show and it was magical! The dance along happens in the professional dancers practice studio with a professional dancer instructor and live piano 🎹 We learned a real fairy 🧚‍♀️ dance before doing some fun crafts and photos with the dancers. Kids from 2-12 participated along with their grown ups - I loved learning a dance alongside my daughter 👯‍♀️ This was the final dance along for this season but look out for them when the Nutcracker returns next season! Although dance—alongs are done until next season you still have time to see A Midsummer’s Night Dream and I am telling you it’s fantastic! Seriously, the most gorgeous set and choreography! You will love it! 🩰 📸 Fun Note: there were other people in the studio with us but the rules were very clear that I was not allowed to post images of other participants- so I busted out my Kate Middleton photo skills and edited them out 👸🏻

❤️I NEED YOUR HELP!!❤️ After returning to a traditional 9-5 in August, I have stopped taking on coaching clients, I am no longer providing postpartum care, and I haven’t really been advertising my photography- it’s been a pretty significant life change and although I am loving working 9 to 5 and being part of a team, that’s making a positive impact on San Francisco I’ve decided that my creative and emotional health needs the outlet of a BLOG (and newsletter). Here is where you come in I would love to hear your thoughts as part of the community of people who follow me: ⁉️What content do you want more of⁉️ How can my creative outlet serve YOU!?! I’m already planning: 🌁 SF Family Fun ✈️Travel 🧳Staycations 🏡Busy mom survival stories and life hacks 💆🏻‍♀️Real self care 🗳️Advocacy Using emojis which of those most interest you??? 📸 @ksienkphoto Follow @sarahromontoya for all things family in San Francisco ❤️
