We are bilingual South Florida moms, Brenda and Kristi. MOTHERHOOD and AUTISM are candidly discussed on our podcast while balancing heels, cocktails, and meltdowns. We share the challenges and triumphs that define the parenting journey of our own special needs sons (autism spectrum disorder + CHRNA7 genetic duplication). Together, we provide community support and a lifeline to parents of newly diagnosed children, teens, and adults. Our guests bring essential professional information to educate and empower families. We blondes keep it light by coloring outside our tan lines and flipping off the PC police. Never a dull moment.

We hope to collaborate with genuine brands and businesses who uplift and empower bold determined women, and mothers of dragons… like us!

Our podcast has been nominated for four Latin Podcast Awards in the categories of Best Kids and Family Podcast, Best Bilingual Podcast, Best English Podcast, and LPA of the Year. We received a nomination in the category of Media Influencer of the Year by the Unicorn Children’s Foundation Community Inclusion Awards in 2019 and also currently listed in the Top 20 Autism Podcasts You Must Follow in 2020 by Feedspot.

As of today, he can no longer independently exercise his right to marry, vote, personally apply for government benefits, have a driver’s license, sue and defend lawsuits, manage property, determine residence, consent to medical treatment, make decisions about social environment, or purchase a gun, amongst other rights we all enjoy as typical consenting adults. For those of you who love to gang up on those “autism parents” who “dare” express their emotions over this type of situation, let me very kindly and eloquently tell you to please, f*ck off. The reality of his autism is simply that he needs lifetime care, and there is no autism feel-good Hollywood movie, TV series, podcast, or book that can change that. I will carry on as usual until I can’t any longer, and I am forced to discuss new living arrangements when I become too old to care for myself and others.

💌📩📬 Over the weekend Tim and I went out for some much needed adult time. While we were gone, JR texted me pictures of a handful of personal letters he was working on. I was elated. Not only did J.R. figure out how to fill his time, but he employed a self-imposed self-regulation skill, all by himself. 😜 His letters were flawless (and no I am not referring to his penmanship). 😂 He inquired about others, referred to a memory they had shared together, and wished them all well. Obviously the letters were more for HIM than anyone else, but he is clever enough to not let that on. ✍🏻 🤓 The best part? He wrote to a wide range of his “fans,” from his first real friends to his latest and greatest supporters. I just loved that. 💌🥰💌 If this sounds like a brag, it 💯 is. ALL I EVER WANTED for J.R. is happiness and the ability to cope with life’s challenges. He has exceeded my expectations by at least ten zip codes, and your kid will do the same- I promise. 😉

📸 For the last several years, we have taken Oliver’s photo in front of this wall. 💦 This weekend, he ran out of the pool each day on his own, and posed eager for us to photograph him again. #suchaham #saycheese

It’s the little, big things. 🦶🏻 🦶🏻 I haven’t seen our Jackson light up as bright or belly laugh as deep as he did when he watched his daddy open the birthday gift HE bought him. #ibelieve that silly, inside jokes between father and son are one of the small yet Sasquatch-sized joys in life. J.R. and I are barely in on the joke, but look at how happy we become, watching them. 🦨 🦍 🧢 😂😂

At one of his favorite spots... happy happy OLI 🧡

💦 💦 For this summer’s vacay Tim decided we return to the scene of the crime and rent in Ellijay, GA again. The mountains ⛰ did not disappoint. There is just something about unplugging and getting to watch three “boys” explore, slip, slide, and tube the river until they bled. 💦🔁⚠️ Throw in eating 🍗 BBQ & bratwurst 🌭, raiding orchards 🌳 🍑, lighting bonfires 🔥 , aiming slingshots, 🦌 adoring deer, charming snakes🐍, painting rocks 🎨 🖌, day-tripping 🚙🤢, diving dogs 🐶 🐕 and FINDING BIGFOOT! 🦶🏻 🦶🏻 Hooray for non-existent cell & Internet service 📵 (and hard cider 🍎 🍺). Until next summer, my skunk apes! 🦨 🦍

🙈💦 Listen people, this feat is a LOT scarier than it looks, okay? I was FREEZING 🥶 but Jackson begged and begged I go down his “waterslide” he “discovered.” Fine! The slide is actually much longer but I chose the chicken 🐓 route. Not important to the story. Once I got over the cold, Jack took me by the hand and we ventured way out, to the SUNNIEST rock. Just the two of us, sitting pretty in the center of a raging river. It was HEAVEN. ☀️ ☀️ I love that boy!

#TBT 2014 (at age 5) Remembering the days of intense PT for Super OLI. He sat up by 12 months and FINALLY walked by age 3. We loved our therapist, Ms. Terry and we visited several times a week. He improved SO SO SO much during that time. What a difference a dedicated and loving therapist makes! 😍🙏🏻 #disorderlyblondesOLI

Woohoo! Head on over to @jeshessels ‘s page to find the link to this new episode, featuring...... US! As usual, we reveal ALL. Sin pelos en la lengua. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US! 🙏🏻🥰 This episode is FULL of gold nuggets as we discuss: 1. What it's like being a mom to special needs children; 2. How we processed the autism diagnosis; 3. What treatments & therapies we tried; 4. Our biggest struggles as parents; 5. What we wish people would stop saying to us; 6. How we cope with the demands of being a special needs parent; 7. What we love about being moms, and 8. Advice for other parents in similar situations. As per Jess, “This episode is both educational and funny as Brenda and Kristi take us on the ups and downs of being a mom to special needs children (and how wine is involved).” 🍷😜

🐢 🥚 🧪 Biology Bootcamp means boating 🚤 the intracoastal waterways, collecting data on sea turtle nests 📊, visiting @loggerheadmarinelifecenter turtle tanks & rehab hospital 🩺, emptying fishing line 🎣 canisters, handing out fish friendly fishing hooks, prepping fishing line for recycling, BREAKING for 🍦😋, surveying sea birds 🐦, beaching, swimming, ATVing, collecting treasures for a collage 🐚, cleaning up our beautiful 🏝 beaches...oh and eating 🍕! Can we please do it again (and again and again)? Thank you Ms. Jackie, Heather, Lexie, and Megan for an unforgettable week. #autism #seaturtles #biology #summer #asd #jrsautism #podcastlife #561
