Nasty Beyonce is my favorite and this cocktail screams kinky afternoon delight ✨ A Mezcal Paloma is one of my favorite brunch drinks and it transports immediately to a desert oasis with crisp, tangy grapefruit. The frothy finish from egg white or aquafaba makes for a velvety, sparkling mouthfeel. The savory bite of Tajin on the rim is a mouth-watering accompaniment. SPAGHETTII Genres are a fully little thing, aren’t they? This cocktail is a southern peach white Negroni sbagliato, an Italian classic over 100 years old. The influences here feel pretty obvious, Southern America meets Florence, Italy for a genre-bending play on a Spaghetti Western. A traditional Negroni is made of equal parts of each spirit, which in the context of Thanos makes it “perfectly balanced as all things should be. (MARVEL lovers stand up!) But this spin achieves balance with slightly off proportions. ALLIIGATOR TEARS It’s a blessing and a curse to love someone so much that they could get anything from you. The lyrics of ALLIIGATOR TEARS make it clear that his love is her weakness. Aware of the insincerity in his tears, she carries the load of his love anyway. It’s her Sunday worship 🙃 This cocktail, traditionally made with gin, benefits from the smoky boldness of mezcal. The worship aspect of this relationship muddies the waters, and leaves the river of drink a murky tint of green. Traditionally garnished with a brandied cherry, I skipped it for the lack of mutual sweetness. There is only more lime for an unbalanced lover. DAUGHTER Well, well, well. Beyoncé has darkly intrusive thoughts. Are we surprised after the Lemonade album? Queen B never misses an opportunity to remind us that she can be twisted, too. Daughter is rage made manifest and the boulevardier is known for its bitter and spicy finish. The pomegranate finish of this boulevardier is a nod to the Greek myth of Persephone, for whom pomegranate seeds sealed her fate in the underworld. She’s drowned in the rage, now. JOLENE- Everyone thinks this song is a biting warning to an over-eager woman encroaching on someone’s man. For as confident and war-ready as the song is meant to sound, there is an insecurity bubbling dark red DEEEEEPPP underneath the surface of this bossy “he could never want you, when he has me” rendition of Jolene. Beyonce captured the nasty nuance so beautifully. And so, this cocktail is a “Soured Passions”, inspired by the classic New York Sour but with a tropical passionfruit twist. The bright and sharp passionfruit is eventually cut by bitter, dry red wine. No matter how much you try to hide it. Cuts bleed.
