I just love the Batman Lego Movie. This is how I feel about going anywhere 😅😅 But avoiding public situations can be kicked to a whole other level when you are breastfeeding! Nursing in public isn’t a requirement - but learning how to do so confidently can help you feel a little more “free”. What have you found to help with breastfeeding in public? Let me know in the comments!

Nipple shields exist for a reason. I recommend them for different moms. When I post about the overuse of nipple shields, it’s not to make anyone feel bad for using one. They exist for a reason! If you end up using it until you wean - that’s just fine if it’s working for you. But if you don’t want to use one forever, that’s okay. My problem comes when moms are given them after just a few minutes (if that) - sometimes without even trying some different positioning or latching techniques. Or someone just looking at a mom, stating she has flat nipples and WILL struggle to breastfeed without a shield. Shields can save a breastfeeding journey, and they can greatly derail one. It all comes down to the education and support that comes with the recommendation. What has been your experience with nipple shields? Let me know in the comments! Cookies, brownies, drink, churros… (ok, maybe not that one!) Facebook and Instagram are full of recommendations for these for milk supply. But at the end of the day, milk supply is based on supply and demand. Are there galactagogues that can support supply? Sure. But they typically aren’t what you should be focusing on. Most of the time, when I see miracle drinks or foods improving supply, it might be more due to the hydration (especially with electrolytes involved) or the increase in calories. Did I make a batch of lactation cookies with my second and swear they worked? 💯. But did I also eat an additional 750 calories in food? 💯. The research we do have (as minimal as it is) doesn’t support lactation cookies as having a meaningful impact on supply. But if you want to try it - go for it. But I recommend focusing on 1) what “normal supply” is and 2) discovering the root cause of why your supply is struggling. Not sure where to start? Comment “milk supply” to get on the waitlist for my upcoming FREE workshop where I’m talking about all things milk supply! Have you found any treats and drink to help? Let me know in the comments! I always love having a new baby during the holiday season. But that doesn’t mean it comes without challenges. And for some, that means dealing with unsolicited opinions and advice on how you’re feeding your baby (and this applies to breastfeeding, bottle feeding and everything in between) My best advice for avoiding contention? Assume the best, find common ground - then change the subject or leave the room :) Remember - there’s no rule that says you have to attend every gathering this year. And there’s also no rule that says you can’t if you want to :) Follow your gut and do what you feel comfortable with. What do you say when someone makes a comment about how you’re feeding your baby? I just wrote an article about navigating the holiday season while breastfeeding. Just comment “holiday” and I’ll send it to you. One of my least favorite marketing tactics out there - because it’s just not true. A bottle that resembles a breast doesn’t act like the breast. In fact, many of these bottles encourage a shallow or straw like latch. Look for a bottle with a gradual slope from the nipple to the base and has a slow flow nipple. Need more help? Comment bottle guide and I’ll send you my favorite picks and tips for choosing a bottle for your breastfed baby! Follow @the.breastfeedingmama for lactation support from first latch to last 🤱🏼

🌟 This is one of my favorite breastfeeding positions🤱✨ If sitting up - or even leaning back - isn’t your favorite place to be, give side lying a try! This is great for everyone, but it can be especially helpful after a c-section for for mothers with larger breasts 🕰️ 1️⃣ You should lay side to side and close together. Keep their ear, shoulders and hips in alignment. Put your arm above their head. 2️⃣ Ensure a good latch by aligning baby’s nose with your nipple and their chin to the breast first. 3️⃣ It might take a few tries, especially with newborns. Adjust until you find your sweet spot. 4️⃣ Make sure it’s safe! If you are tired at all, please don’t do this on a couch or somewhere that baby might fall off. Keep loose blankets, pillows and sheets away as well. 5️⃣ Support yourself with pillows. You may find that rolling up a receiving blanket to put behind baby can help them stay in place, or you can try and cradle your child with your arm. Some find it a tad tricky at first, but trust the process. Many moms discover the power of this position as their baby gets a little older. I personally love this position around the 2-3 month mark 🔄 Remember, the perfect breastfeeding position doesn’t exist. If it feels comfortable to you; then it’s probably a good position! Keep adjusting until you find something that works well for you. 🚀 Ready for Side-Lying Bliss? Try it today! Share your experiences below and tag a fellow mama who needs this breastfeeding revelation! 💖👶 (and obviously, it’s harder to demo this with a fake baby. If you have a video of your side lying - send it to me. I’d love to share with this community!) Follow @the.breastfeedingmama for lactation support from first latch to last.
