Pay it Forward

Someone took a chance on you, believed in you, and inspired you enough to help propel you to where you are today. Don’t dismiss an opportunity that can possibly change the course of someone’s life for the good. Remember that time you went through what you went through and how good it made you feel when the least expected person came along and did or said something to help the situation? Or the time that you were moved to the front of the line, or in sync with someone else, reached for the last item of your favorite thing on the shelf, and the other person let it go, or the person before you in the fast food drive thru paid for your order?

Finding calm in the eye of the storm

A screed arrived in my mailbox last week, sans envelope and sans postage: four Xeroxed pages of an anti-Biden rant, bold-faced, capitalized and underlined, with multiple exclamation points for redundant emphasis — formatting borrowed from Trumpian tweets. The messenger had to have threaded through the Biden/Harris and BLM signs in my yard to reach my mailbox. This summer I began taking long walks and snapping photos of things that make me happy: a perfect blossom, a leaf shaped like a heart. I will remind myself that one more week of waiting is unlikely to resolve the political situation, and it certainly won’t diminish the monster of the coronavirus.

A ballsy, ignorant or dishonest promise from Biden

Remember President Barack Obama's oft-repeated promise to garner support for Obamacare? Under his new health plan, which he modestly labeled Biden Care, he said at the last debate: Not one single person with private insurance would lose their insurance under my plan, nor did they under Obamacare. According to NBC News, the Obama administration knew in July 2010 that more than 40 percent to 67 percent of people in the individual market would likely not be able to keep their existing policies. On November 7, 2013, President Obama issued an apology to those who lost their health insurance due to Obamacare regulations.

You know what's stupid? Thinking your age matters

I cannot simply operate an animal sanctuary out of my wide open land because, well, I don't have the funds or said "wide open land. I cannot just enroll in a class analyzing 21st century literature of the Indian diaspora because that would require me to, you know, enroll into an MFA program or something. but I'll tell you because I have hid little from this blog, and that is this: in my late twenties, I took a stupid amount of pride in having accomplished things "at my age" or wanting to accomplish things in my twenties.
