Tip Tuesday—Simple, minimal living with our kids during this social distancing time. 🤪 Well, I don’t really don’t have a solid tip, but I can offer some advice—don’t set the expectations too high! We don’t really have a schedule or a plan, we just go with the flow, as usual. Having a plan seems too solid for me in a time that is so uncertain! And that is okay! You don’t have to have all the perfect crafts set up, you don’t have to be baking all day, you don’t have to have a written schedule every day, but you can have a plan to stay busy with something. Anything that keeps you going is good enough! And your kids, too. We make sure we get outside often, and we’ve been riding our bikes more than we ever have! Just making sure to get Cash’s school work done is about the only thing on our schedule, and even that is not down to the minute or hour. You’re doing great over there, mama! Even if you feel like others have it together, they aren’t you. You are you, and you are great at being YOU! And your kids think so, too! 🥰 I have joined with some of my insta friends to share some of our fave tips to live a more simple, minimal life. So here I am, researching how to make my own foaming hand soap on Pinterest, looking up all the supplies I need on Amazon (which is only two things) and then placing my order and being so excited to get that “arrived” email! I found these SUPER cute mason jar soap dispensers on Amazon, but didn’t want to pay $20 for two dispensers. So, I ended up finding the foaming soap lids that fit mason jars for under $9!! 15 drops of essential oil (more of less depending on how strong you want the smell)
Maybe what we want is a sense of calmness and order. 🤷🏻♀️ Have you ever looked around at a mess and wondered why it keeps getting that way, even though that particular item that creates a mess is organized? My mom’s food containers, etc... are organized, but they are always everywhere. Always needing to be cleaned, put away, and reorganized. Do you want to know what the problem is?? She has too many! Too many to use. Too many to clean. And too many to store! Imagine having less of them. That means fewer of them to clean, less to put away, and less of them to create new messes! It works in every part of your home! Are the toys always a mess? Eliminate. Bathroom counters always a mess? Eliminate. Eliminate to create a calm space. And in return, you will have a more peaceful mind. At least that’s my hope! I’m still a work in progress and trying to help my mom learn the benefits of less while I’m here. 🤷🏻♀️❤️ #declutteryourlife #declutterlikeamother #joshuabeckerquote #joshuabecker #declutteryourmind #anxietyrelief #adhdsupport #mentalhealthmatters #foodforthought
But, besides those bigger trips once a year, it’s also nice throughout the year to get away and visit towns and places that are relatively local to us! After arriving at our hotel, (The Hilton Garden Inn in the downtown area of Bloomington) we were presented with the most generous ‘swag bag’ full of fun ideas and things to do in Bloomington! This cute little ice cream shop had all the fun flavors, but my kids went for the classic chocolate, as usual… Chris and I enjoyed some ice-cream, too! Across from Hartzell’s Ice Cream Shop, there is the coolest Bloomington wall art that I bribed my kids to take a photo in front of in my typical mom-tog fashion.
Maybe it’s because it’s the only place that I am able to really be quiet with the thoughts in my mind. Maybe it was because my dad was such a huge supporter of my hair business and the memories I have with him and cutting his hair are too hard to forget. What I wouldn’t give to be able to see his face in here today and give him “the best cut in Indy” once more. I can’t remember where a client parts their hair, but I will never forget the way I had to trim those two gray hairs at the top of his right ear, or the way he had to fix his own hair after I’d just done it
I’ve spent the last eight months wondering where my rainbow is Wishing that I could allow myself to stop and breathe for a moment in the midst of anxiety, instead of yelling. As I reflect back on the past, every single place I’ve been, any mistakes I’ve made, has brought me here. So why do we beat ourselves up for the phase that we’re in right now, with all of the difficult details that come with?
What a transformation!! My mom's laundry room got a much-needed facelift over the past couple of days, and I love it! (Swipe to see the before and during.) This house that I grew up in was built by my grandpa (my dad’s dad), and the wallpaper was put up when we moved in 33 years ago! 😳😂 She thought of removing it, thought of shiplap, but all seemed like such a task. So, she decided to do paintable, textured wallpaper, and it turned out amazing! It’s perfect for damaged walls or covering ugly, stuck on wallpaper that you don’t want to remove. Today, we painted it sherwinwilliams Sea Salt! 😍 It looks so nice and fresh, but next up is all the kid's clothes. It’s out of control right now!😬🤦🏻♀️ The wallpaper is from loweshomeimprovement, and it’s by scottlivinghome at around $17 a roll. She used three rolls, making it a pretty inexpensive project! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #quarantinehomeprojects #homeremodel #roomrefresh #laundryroommakeover #laundryroom #paintablewallpaper #scottliving #lowesproject #diyblogger #diyhomeblogger
Since being home, have you worked on any home projects that you’ve neglected over the years? What are you working on?! 🏡🔨✨ I know in our last house, I had way too many projects that never got done. Now seems like the time to work on them, or maybe just watch Netflix. 🤷🏻♀️😂 But seriously, we’ve been working on a few things here, and I can’t wait to show you some finished projects! Check out my stories for today’s project, but I can’t say I helped with that one. Because I don’t wallpaper...😬 #quarantineprojects #quarantinelife #houseprojects #diyprojects #cashandaxel candidlyashleigh
