Venturing into the mysterious Su Nuraxi site: meandering through shadowy passageways flanked by towering stacked stones, each beckoning us in a different direction. Above us, an ancient ceiling, impeccably preserved and resembling an inverted pine cone. To our surprise, nestled within the inner walls, a hidden spiral staircase unveiled itself, spiraling up to the rooftop. Gazing from the tower’s peak, we were captivated by the history, envisioning the many souls who had treaded these ancient steps before us.

No written records of this ancient civilization have been discovered, and most of their structures and history still remain a mystery today. Throughout the island these stone structures called Nuraghe are scattered through each region. Today over 7,000 are found. Nuraghe are ancient megalithic edifices found exclusively on the Italian island of Sardinia— and nowhere else in the world! . . . . . #Sardinia #beautifuldestinations #visititaly #italy_vacations #lifeofadventure #italytravel #ourplanetdaily #djiglobal #lonelyplanet #beautifuldestinations #visititalia #italygram

One of the most mysterious archeological sites we’ve come across would be this ancient site called the Well of Santa Cristina. It was constructed during the Bronze age, long before Christianity and is believed to be a ritual site. During the Bronze Age, Sardinia was occupied by the ancient Nuragic culture believed to flourish around 1800BC - 238BC. The history of these people are shrouded in mystery as there were no found written records left behind. Scholars have found many symbolic representations of fertility across the Nuragic sites and believe they had a water cult that invoked various feminine aspects of the divine. What we found extremely fascinating was how the angular stone slabs were all cut, and how they layer over each other perfectly, almost looking as if it was made in modern times. But the structure that was built above it was made from rugged, un-cut placed stones in a rounded design. It looked as if two distinctly different cultures built each part. It was a very mystical place to sit and wonder 🧙♀️
