If you ain’t wrapped up in ALL your warmest layers, being tickled by a howling gale, pondering yet another wind break and stoically carrying on, is it even a British seaside holiday? #beachvibes #beachday #beach #britain #beachlife #beaches #britishweather #beachweather #beachday☀️ #britishproblems #dayonthebeach #keepcalmandcarryon

I recently wrote a piece for the March issue of @somersetlifemagazine on Bristol’s best restaurants with a view 👀, places where you’ll get a feast for your eyes as well as your stomach - here’s a selection of those I featured ⬆️ If you want to get your hands on a copy of the mag, I’ve put the link in my bio 🤪 Now excuse me while I manifest some blue skies… @cliftonobservatory @white_lion_bar @hotelduvin @bambalanbristol @muddock @grainbarge @zerodegreesbristol @_harbourhouse_ @cottage_inn_bristol @visitbristol

Only 4 days left to see the playful light installations of Bristol Light Festival! It's free to attend and runs from 5pm to 10pm every (finishing Sunday 12 February). There are ten installations to seek out, all within walking distance of each other, although do note that they are quite spaced out for little legs. It'll take you around 2ish hours at an adult walking pace to see them all, so maybe pick a few if you're taking young children. And if you want to do the light up swings get there early, to avoid the queues (and any disappointment) Here's the map so you can plan your route: https://bristollightfestival.org/blf-2024/map-2024/ Enjoy!

*Exciting news alert* you may or may not know I write a monthly family-friendly column in @somersetlifemagazine, but as of this month, I’ll be writing a monthly article on my favourite city…yep, you guessed it, Bristol baby! First up, in the February issue, one for all the lovers ❤️ out there - my pick of slightly outside-of-the-box Bristol date ideas featuring @thewave, @whistlepunks, @junglerumbleuk @showofstrengthtc @supbristol @say.yuup @westcountrywp @lidobristol I’ll pop the link in my bio shortly if you’d like to grab yourself a copy 🤩

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas 🥰, but mostly wishing peace to all those who are enduring unbearable suffering right now 🇵🇸 🇨🇬 🇸🇩 #ceasefirenow #freepalestine

[ad *PR invite] I’m not a massive panto fan - I’ve not been to one since I was little (unless you count the one I had to leave after the first 10 minutes as it was too loud for my loudest child #theirony), but people rave about the @Bristolhipp one, so when I got the invite this year, I thought we’d give it a whirl. With ear defenders in tow for the sensitive-eared one, the girls and I settled in for a bedazzling night of singing, bawdy jokes, sparkle and FABULOUS costumes. And I have to say, I think the cast of Peter Pan (which includes @fayetozer, David Suchet, @andyfordcomedian and @ceri_dupree) have turned us Paull ladies into panto converts. Certainly for the Bristol Hippodrome production, which was brilliant from start to finish - from the snow machine outside the theatre, to the impressive glittering sets, special effects, laugh-out-loud silliness and fantastic energy, I was really impressed. Half way through, the girls thanked me for bringing them and declared it the funniest show they’d ever seen 😀 #merrybristmas

[ad #gifted] Of all the illuminated Christmas trails near Bristol (and Somerset), The Festival of Light @Longleat is one of the biggest. This year Longleat has upped its game even more and added two more trails. The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S Lewis takes pride of place (a personal fave - I whiled away many afternoons as a child trying to get through the back of my wardrobe), alongside other treasured tales, with lantern scenes bringing key moments from books like Cinderella, Peter Pan (presented by special arrangement with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity), The Wizard of Oz, Winnie the Pooh and more, to life. Extra festive flavour comes from Britain’s biggest singing Christmas tree, snow flurries, 60m fountain displays on the lake, winter safaris and boarding the Santa Train to a snow-covered winter wonderland to meet Father Christmas and his elves. Valley Fest showcases Bristol’s live music scene as well as the city’s fine local food producers, so expect lashings of good ol’ West country spirit with everything from charcuterie to cider, street food to sit-down feasts. One of the most famous of all the festivals in Bristol, this free four-day family-friendly event is the largest hot air balloon fest of its kind in Europe. ’s 17th century mansion (you might recognise it as the Warleggan town house in Poldark), sits snuggled in a steep valley and ancient deer park, against a picturesque backdrop of Cotswold hills and manicured gardens. It’s a steep downhill from the play park to the mansion house, then back to the car park on your return, so be aware the minibus isn’t currently running, but you can email ahead of your visit if you have any access issues. Nestled in the Cotswolds, surrounding an unfinished Victorian mansion, the secluded valley of Woodchester Park is home to the remains of an 18th- and 19th-century landscape park, a chain of five lakes fringed by woodland and pasture, and lots of wildlife. Dolebury Warren (postcode BS40 5DL) is the site of an Iron Age hill fort with breathtaking views over the Mendips and North Somerset, while Tor Hill Woods (postcode BA5 2XP,) offers a beautiful backdrop to the city of Wells, a mosaic of paths through the woods and views of the stunning Wells Cathedral.

Outside birthday party ideas for kids in Bristol

And, while weekly birthday gatherings of 30-ish hyperactive children are but a distant memory, with lockdown restrictions slowly starting to lift, outdoor spaces for small groups certainly feel like one of the safest ways of celebrating upcoming birthdays. Choose your package – prices range from small (£75) to large (£100), with a disco option (£135/£160) or bouncy castle (+£25). From 12 April, Fun Science are offering small, personalised birthday celebrations with activities such as popping test tubes, themed slime-making and a rocket launch in the garden! The price (£200 per outdoor booking (Fri-Sun) or £180 per outdoor booking (Mon-Thu)) includes drop off, set up and collection of the Cinema Equipment: Sleep Under Bristol (whose gorgeous indoor sleepovers in festival-style tents I reviewed here) offers Bell tent and dome hire for beautiful outdoor party setups in your garden.
