In case you’ve wondered, “what happened to Bright Green Door”… today I wrote a whole blog post explaining!

Happy Mother’s Day! It’s an emotional day all around. Our girls were born to Mother’s who adore them but aren’t getting to raise them. This week I had the joy of spending time with Baby T’s mama and we both sobbed together. Sobbed because we both love her so much and want the very best for her. Sobbed over how thankful we both are to be in each other’s lives. Sobbed over our brokenness. Today I celebrate the wonderful mom’s in our life, but I also grieve for so many. Happy Mother’s Day to ALL women, no matter what wonderful, good, hard, or painful path to motherhood you’re on. 📸: @littlexlittlephotography

Thank you so much for all your prayers!! My 12 year old is improving and so far the rest of us are still symptom free!! My husband is working from the dining room, and the other two are virtual schooling from their bedrooms. That means this sweet little one and I are getting lots of quality time in here. Also, yes, I do have a hospital bassinet and mama-roo consuming my side of the room!

When we finished our basement the last thing I considered was that it would be the ideal “isolation zone” for my 12 year old to quarantine. Poor guy came down with COVID on Friday and man did it hit him hard. This means we’re on a 10 day family quarantine and we’re praying it doesn’t take anyone else down.

One week ago we got the call, “We’ve got a five week old baby that needs a Foster home, can you pick her up in three hours?” Honestly, we almost said no and that would have been the biggest mistake. We didn’t even know our hearts had room for this much love. ❤️ We don’t know what her story will hold, or how long we’ll get to love on this sweet babe. We do know that God put her here for a reason and that He has a wonderful plan for her life. As much as I’d love a peek into what that plan is, I know that we just need to trust and obey. 🎼When we walk with the Lord In the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way; While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey. 🎶

How do you hang art above an off-centered fireplace?!? You don’t! You just paste a mural up there instead!! I found this art in the @metmuseum archives and uploaded it to @photowall_sweden. Now I have a custom size mural that I love for under $60! Someday I’ll finish all the details on this basement! #ProgressShot #OurStoneRanch

I really LOVE when I get the opportunity to put my DIY skills to work doing something that makes an impact for good! Earlier this week I added wallpaper to the coffee bar at our church office and it turned out beautiful. I know this little coffee bar will bring a moment of joy to many staff members on their coffee breaks. Sometimes just a bit of design makes all the difference!!

Did you guys catch the closet reading nook I built for my son? He loves the privacy of having his own little space. I love that he’s reading nonstop!

Are you curious what it cost to add a basement bathroom to our house? Today on the blog I shared the entire budget breakdown!

Cost to Add a Basement Bathroom

Thankfully we were able to include the bathroom construction and electrical permits with the rest of the basement. We rented a jackhammer to trench in the main line, which cost us $150. Because we did all of the construction, concrete and electrical work ourselves we were able to save a lot of money. I never got any contractor quotes for this project, but I’m guessing it would have been closer to $1000 for similar finishes.

AD: Can you believe I created this gorgeous reading nook for my son using pool noodles and an @arrowfastener staple gun?! Vertical Channel Tufting is HOT and it's SO easy to do! Head to the blog to see how to DIY this look. #MadewithArrow https://lnk2.io/wQym2ZS

DIY Vertical Channel Tufting

Today I’m revealing the DIY vertical channel tufting reading nook that I built in my son’s closet! A few years ago I created my Channel Tufted Headboard, and I decided to go with a similar idea, but this time using 2.5″ diameter pool noodles! Next we added the “L” shaped bookshelves using metal brackets and built a bench out of basic pine boards with a piece of 2″ foam for the seat. It’s just a board, a piece of 2″ foam, wrapped in batting and fabric, then it’s stapled using the Arrow staple gun.

First post in over a month... what?!?? Anyways, Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Are you here for the football, the food, or the commercials?! 🏈🌮📺

Favorite Books of 2020

I didn’t like the crudity of Ian’s perspective, but it also felt vital to the story. Between Shades of Gray There isn’t a Sepety book that I haven’t loved. I don’t want to minimize the author’s experience, but I didn’t enjoy her writing style at all. It really didn’t have a lot of helpful advice, and I just didn’t love her writing style.
