What’s your millennial jump scare and why is this image? But for real, this was the first book to ever scare me. I vividly remember each October when my elementary school music teacher would turn off all the lights in the music room, play this audiobook, and accompany it with her own scary soundtrack from her German harp. I. Was. Scarred. 🫥 A spooky season doesn’t go by that I don’t think about this story. I hated it so much. 😅 But, look at me now! Fourth Wing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Holy. Dragons. 🐉 I’ll be the first to say that I do not consider myself a fantasy reader, but this book really caught my attention. It was wild! It felt like Harry Potter, Hunger Games and, Divergent for adults! I didn’t realize the emotional attachment I could have two fictional dragons… I’m invested now and there’s no going back! The friendships, the sacrifice, the drama, the romance- it all works so beautifully together to create a strong, propulsive story. This book was truly exciting. I don’t know the last book that I read that was truly exciting. Maybe Stephen King’s 11/22/63? Maybe Harry Potter? I don’t know, but this book was fresh and it had my brain buzzing! I’ll leave you with this. I got chills on the last page and I immediately pre-ordered Iron Flame. I’m counting the days until its release! Even if you’re not a fantasy reader, I would say give this a try. I really think you’ll love it. Our book club has certainly enjoyed talking about it! Tom Lake ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🍒 So, I bought this book solely based on the beautiful cover…. I knew nothing about it 🤭 🍒 But, I quickly fell in love with the story and Meryl Streep‘s narration within the first chapters. 🍒 This is a beautiful reflection and meditation on life before parenthood, life as a young adult, navigating love and relationships, and the decisions we make that chart our lives. 🍒 It was also, in a way, a heart-song to the theater and the passion that lives within actors who see that as their life’s calling. 🍒 In the spring of 2020 when the world shut down, Lara’s three grown daughters return home and help their parents pick the cherry harvest on the family farm. 🍒 Through the days of working, Lara shares her story of who she was before life as a mom. 🍒 The narration was spectacular! It felt like this book was written for Meryl Streep to read. One of the best narrations I’ve ever listened to. She deserves a Grammy nomination for this performance. How do we make that happen?! 🍒It’s easy to say if you are a fan of Ann Patchett, you’re going to enjoy this one too. 🍒 If you’ve never read any of her work, I think you’ll like this book if you’re a fan of: Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer 🍒 All of these books have this beautiful, meditative writing that feels like satin ribbon in your brain. Audiobook listeners please weigh-in on this one! What speed do you listen to your audiobooks?! For me, it depends on the genre of book! If it’s a heavier literary fiction, I tend to be around 1.7x or 1.8x speed. If it’s a romcom, I am between 2x and 2.5x speed! There’s no right or wrong speed to listen to audiobooks! It’s completely personal preference. I think it’s interesting that for myself, I have different preferences in different genres. I love these smiley face nails from NailsMailed!
