I read a lesson on mindfulness this last month and started practicing even more self awareness. Ask yourself "what is my mind full of?" If it's full of anxiety, impatience, criticisms and stress that is what you'll be mindful of. If it's full of peace, contentment, acceptance and gratitude that's what you'll be focused on. I choose the latter! Mindfulness practices like non-judgment, and compassion can help us question our own thoughts and be open to new perspectives. Being mindful can actually help you be more humble. You can cultivate more acceptance by practicing loving-kindness meditations that encourage you to be more compassionate toward yourself. I've chosen to be more aware of my thoughts, feelings, and karma. Shifting focus to these aspects of my life. So ask yourself, what is my mind full of and is that what I want to focus on? What is your favorite piece of workout equipment? 🔴 I've always been a firm believer that all you need for a workout is a pair of sneakers and a good sports bra. However,  my first Barre class changed all that. (What do you mean I need sticky socks? lol 🧦) So after being introduced to Barre I found a love for the Bender Ball; most of y'all know it as a pilates ball. It is one of my favourite props!! 😍 Classes that include the use of a pilates ball are both more challenging and more fun than when they’re not. Why? Well, studies have shown they test your strength, stability and balance all at once. ⚖ These balls act as an effective training tool as they provide an unstable Surface. That instability forces you to use your core muscles, aid with back health, injury recovery as well as improving posture. 🧘‍♀️ These balls are ideal to train those hard to reach muscles that fail to get trained in the gym. 🍑 It’s great for getting a deep abdominal connection as it forces you to find stability through your core. It’s not just good for your mid-section, though. A Pilates ball can also be used to strengthen your arms or legs with simple squeezes, or even just holding it in place. These balls also add resistance to exercises, many of which encourage pelvic floor activation as well as toning the body. Pilates balls have been used by physio therapists for years as an essential aid for injury recovery! There are so many different Pilates ball exercises, which will make your workouts varied and more fun. You can use it on the mat or to aid in your standing work. Injuries and medical conditions are an area of fitness that gets overlooked way too often because trainers, fitness brands and individuals have their own vision of what a workout should look like or consist of. But the importance of factoring in past/current injuries and one's medical history should be central to any exercise strategy. 🩺 Recently more and more people are turning to yoga to help prevent and recover from injuries as consultants, physiotherapists and coaches are becoming increasingly aware of the positive benefits of a long-term yoga practice. Along with supporting physical, mental and emotional wellness, injury recovery has proven to be a fundamental benefit of yoga practice. 🧘 I myself found yoga to help knee and hip pain after an accident left my right ankle with a bar and 9 screws in two bones.  When I approached my workouts from a healing, health, and strength aspect; rather than I need to be fill in the blank, it felt more beneficial. So now that I'm helping others on thier journey I make sure it is the first question I ask before we begin any type of fitness routine. 🗝 Yin is generally good for relaxation and helping to ease the connective tissue between muscles which can help with flexibility, injury prevention and recovery - through static stretching. Flow, Ashtanga and other forms of more vigorous styles of yoga suit more dynamic recovery plans. 📝 In general, Yoga is becoming another key tool for those who are looking to maintain their fitness in a way that will complement their injury prevention or recovery plan. You need friends who have your back. The help you out mom friend is always ready to babysit when you need a sitter, will pick your kids up when your car won't start or do anything else you need. Be sure to appreciate this mom friend and repay her anytime that you can for her kindness. There are certain kinds of mom friends you need in your life. Mom friends are just invaluable and get you in a way that your friends that don't have chiIdren yet cannot. Sometimes you get lucky and you get several of these mom friends all in one person, which is like hitting the jackpot. If you have these mom friends your life will be so much richer for it.
