I am Baia, a freelance content writer, travel blogger, food lover and a passionate photographer living in Tbilisi, Georgia. My blog, Red Fedora Diary, is all about budget-travel to popular and less-known destinations. Additionally, the blog provides tips and tricks on how to travel cheaper, safer, and better. 🌟Storytelling time. I don't think I shared this with you before. The name "Red Fedora Diary" holds a special place in my heart. It emerged from my life-changing backpacking trip in Southeast Asia with my best friend Mariam in 2014. To shield myself from the sun, Mariam gave me a red brim hat, which I wore pretty much daily. And in almost all the pictures we shared on social media, I wore that hat. It quickly became my signature accessory, and my friends playfully likened me to the iconic Indiana Jones. When I thought of the blog's name, I wanted it to be connected to that meaningful and unforgettable trip we had. Thus, the Red Fedora Diary was born. After Mariam's death in September 2023, this name has even more meaning and depth to me than ever before. The Fabulous Tale of Being Different by @case_maclaim for today's #MuralMonday is one of the most powerful pieces I've seen recently. The piece shows a confident, black child in a golden wheelchair, wearing a self-made mermaid costume. It's striking, emotional, and thought-provoking! He believes that the beauty of fairytales is up to our imagination to create how a character moves, looks, or talks, which is not a subject of debate because, like a fingerprint, it is very personal and unique. With this in mind, he gave Madrid a new character of an unknown fairytale, hoping it would encourage people to create their own story where they feel as confident as this kid. Gareji's Sabereebi are rock-cut monastery caves further from the David Gareji Monastery that also date back to the 6th century. They used to be part of this massive religious cave complex back in the day, and because getting to these caves is slightly more challenging, rarely do any tourists venture out this far. As you might know, the beautiful cave fresco decorations that made David Gareji so famous are now inaccessible; visiting Sabereebi caves is a great alternative to seeing this marvelous ancient cave art. Back then, the Sabereebi area had 11 churches; however, only a few frescos have survived, making them one of the oldest frescos in Georgia. My favorite house in Tbilisi for today's #TbilisiTuesday is David Sarajishvili's mansion in Sololaki. After studying cognac production in France, he brought the brandy-making technique to the Caucasus and opened the first factory in the region. We still produce brandy under his surname. He loved Georgian literature and was friends with many local poets and writers; therefore, when he died, he devoted this building to the writers of Georgia. Today, it incorporates a museum showcasing his life, another room dedicated to those writers repressed during the Soviet era, and a hotel. There are various digital info boards telling the story of the building and Sarajishvili himself. The room, allegedly Sarajishvili's bedroom, has a very ornate Oriental-style ceiling. It shows his memorabilia, his wife's beautiful dress, a picture of when she wore it, and a porcelain china with his initials, to name a few. Once there, make sure you go into the courtyard and pay attention to the terrace floor mosaic decoration, which was custom-made for him by Villeroy & Bosch company. Nona was the first female ever awarded the FIDE title Grandmaster back in 1978 and has also won the women's world chess championship five times.
