Why I fell in love with the Indian Himalaya

We sat down with trekking legend and Lonely Planet author, Garry Weare, to delve into his life-long passion for the Indian Himalaya. His intimate knowledge of the region is documented in his Lonely Planet guidebook, Trekking in the Indian Himalaya and his acclaimed narrative, A Long Walk in The Himalaya – an intriguing account of his five-month trek from the source of the Ganges to Kashmir. Over the last 20 years I have returned regularly to the Nanda Devi region. Like villagers in most remote corners of the Himalaya, the people in the Nanda Devi region are forever curious as to why we have travelled half way around the world to meet them.

Traveller stories: Walking the Overland Track

The Overland Track is no doubt one of Australia's finest walks, and will take you through spectacular waterfalls, dolerite mountains, lakes, tarns and diverse ecosystems in pristine Tasmanian wilderness World Heritage areas. We asked Michele about the highlights of her trip, what inspired her to do the Overland Track and tips for others completing the track. The sun was blazing, bright and hot during much of our time on the Overland Track – something that isn’t that common along this trail that sees a lot of rain throughout the year. Read more about Michele’s Overland Track experience as well as countless other adventures - including her journey toward a healthier life - on her blog at www.alifemoreextraordinary.net Find out more about our Overland Track walk Interested in finding out more about other great walks in Tasmania?

On The Couch with Di Westaway

When you wake up with that extreme hangover on New Year’s Day, then you remember you also polished off a whole packet of Tim Tams before bed, chances are you’ll be ‘good’ for a day. Research shows a whopping 70 percent of us start our new year with the goal of ‘get fit and lose weight Make them before or after New Year’s Eve so you don’t join the 92 percent who fail. And I’m doing it with my friends, so in addition to making my resolution before New Year, I’ve also added an extra ingredient for success: a team.
