The City of Yonkers owns this public park, and the admirable folks who maintain it are with the non-profit organization, Untermyer Gardens Conservancy. Not surprising at all, considering Samuel Untermyer’s directive for his landscape architect to build “the greatest gardens in the world”. If you’re in the mood for a little more scandal, a touch of sauciness, and a dose of horror with your history today check out the Fodor’s Travel feature on Untermyer Gardens: The Secret Satanic History of New York City’s Untermyer Gardens. In its heyday, Greystone was the definition of opulence— lavish to a level that surprised Samuel Untermyer’s peers and the press and even made the city to whom he bequeathed it balk at his gift.
The Shawangunk Wine Trail boasts 15 member wineries, all situated on the rolling hills of the area. This year, this popular and festive wine-tasting event will take place on the following weekends: With your ticket, you’ll receive a souvenir wine tasting glass, a grapevine wreath and a Shawangunk Wine Trail ornament, and wine tasting at your starting winery; then continue on a self-guided tour to the remaining wineries in any order to receive a wine tasting and new ornament at each stop along the way! For each weekend of the event, you can purchase a Saturday-only ticket, a Sunday-only ticket, or a discounted Weekend ticket. Luckily for you, Uber and Lyft are both available in the Hudson Valley, or you can check out the transportation partners listed on the Shawangunk Wine Trail website.
That number isn’t much of a surprise, considering just how full the Hudson Valley is with small businesses run by our very own family and friends. By choosing to #ShopSmall, we’re actively contributing to a more engaged, more diverse, and more economically sound Hudson Valley. When you turn to your local Main Street or indie shop owners for your holiday shopping (and eating!) needs, you’re helping to build a stronger community and local economy. In addition to this Saturday after Thanksgiving, we urge you to shop small and shop local all throughout November and the rest of the year.
Presented by The Valley Table, Hudson Valley Restaurant Week gives diners the unique opportunity to sample and savor area restaurants through specially priced menus— often created just for HVRW. Over the course of about two weeks, twice a year, 200+ restaurants across the Hudson Valley participate in Hudson Valley Restaurant Week. HVRW is an awesome opportunity to savor new flavors, taste new (and new to you) culinary techniques, and of course, support businesses in the HV.
