We’ve gotten to the point where it’s cold and windy in the morning, then 70 degrees in the afternoon. It’s nearly impossible to get dressed everyday. So it felt appropriate to post about A Winter in New York, which is actually mostly set during the fall. BOOK REVIEW: A Winter in New York by Josie Silver Has anyone ever read Josie Silver and not immediately wanted to read all her books? I’ve enjoyed all the books I’ve read from her though generally they tend to lean on the side of romantic but immensely sad. I’ll say that sure, A Winter in New York had some sad moments, but didn’t feel as overwhelming sad as others. I enjoyed the NYC setting, the great descriptive gelato moments, and the joys of found family. I also liked getting a bit of insight into Iris’s mom’s story, and wished there would’ve been more bits of it sprinkled about. There are parts of this book that aren’t perfectly wrapped up, but it made perfect sense in the way that there are moments in life that aren’t perfectly wrapped it. There are moments we miss out on or chances we don’t take. Pathways we miss and look back on with a “what if…?”. This is that kind of story in a lot of ways, but it’s also highly lovely and satisfying. My biggest annoyance related to this book is that the majority of it actually isn’t set in winter, and that irked me. Seriously, winter doesn’t start until late December (mere days before Christmas) and ends late March. Most of the book is a fall setting, though those frigid cold months of fall, it’s still not winter. Either way, I’ll keep reading stories from Josie Silver. They’re too enjoyable not to. Side note: I love that the gelato recipe is included in the back of the book!

I saw this on Pinterest and really have no clue if it’s what’s been so effective, but it’s really delicious, so I had to share.

Other than the fact I couldn’t brush my teeth without throwing up, pregnancy was the healthiest I’ve felt in my entire life. This sweet baby of mine helped me take care of myself so I could take care of her and get to meet her IRL. I always thought I’d be miserable while pregnant, but I actually kind of… liked it? Don’t mind me. I’m just over here reminiscing and staring through the gorgeous maternity photos @madisonwelchphoto shot.

Figuring out all the ins and outs of motherhood as a first time mom is so hard. There’s lots of information out there, but it’s often overwhelming trying to find the things that work best for you. A thing I didn’t expect to be as challenging as it was has been finding practical, easy-to-use breastmilk storage bags. I’ve tried a few and I’m sharing my thoughts on those. #1 NANOBÉBÉ seemed cool. I liked that they came with a horizontal storage organization to save space in the fridge, but that proved to not be practical. I did like how the bags lying flat allowed to milk and its fat to separate nicely, which allowed for smoother combining when it’s time to be used. A simple one-handed shake was sufficient. #2 LANSINOH is super popular. I had some samples from different pregnancy freebie boxes, so I used those up. The bags are big and hold a lot, but the label at the top is SO BIG and awkwardly shaped, making it hard to pour milk in and out of the bag without spilling it. #3 MOTIF bags were the ones Aeroflow sent me when I ordered my breast pump through insurance. They sent me 300, and I’ve reordered more since then. They’re well-priced, stand up easily, and have an easy-pour spout if you want to use that. We tend not to use the spout since we don’t always use the whole bag at a time. These were the clear winners for me. How do you store your breast milk? Do you prefer bags, or maybe the pitcher method? I’m still figuring it all out, but as a mom, practicality and ease of use are top priority for me. #breastmilk #breastmilkstorage #breastmilkbag #breastmilkbags #aeroflow #motifmedical #nanobebe #lansinoh #firsttimemom #momthoughts

Book Review: White Ivy by Susie Yang

Filled with surprising twists and offering sharp insights into the immigrant experience, White Ivy is both a love triangle and a coming-of-age story, as well as a glimpse into the dark side of a woman who yearns for success at any cost. - White Ivy, Susie Yang White Ivy is honestly a really fantastic story, but it’s one of those that isn’t a surface level story. White Ivy isn’t a happy book, but I wouldn’t describe it as sad either. Want to Transition to a Plant-Based Diet? Avoid These 3 Mistakes

But you'll most likely feel much better after eliminating processed foods from your diet – fake meats, packaged snacks, fast food, and sugary drinks. Although a plant-based diet can also provide these nutrients, not planning your diet properly may cause some nutrient deficiencies. So when switching to a plant-based diet, you'll want to plan on where to get all the essential nutrients that keep your body healthy. While animal-based foods like eggs, meat, fish, and dairy are rich in this vitamin, it can be sourced from fortified cereals and nutritional yeast.

5 Things All Plant-Lovers Need In Their Lives ASAP

But I've found that it's much better to search by "bare root" than to search by "plant," which brings up all kind of results (which are weirdly a lot of Rae Dunn coffee mugs). With premium, you can identify plants; receive schedules not only for watering but also for fertilizing, misting, repotting, and pruning; receive recommendations based on your plant's site environment and your skill level; get help from a botanist; receive care guides and articles; help with taking care of plants during winter; and even a really cool light meter that gives you a better idea of your site's lighting (instead of just guessing yourself). And of course, plant apparel: It’s cliche, but taking care of plants has really helped me to learn and take better care of myself.
