⁣It was a good weekend.⠀ ⠀ 1 - sunday night dinner: salmon, carrots, green beans and baked potatoes with Kerrygold.⠀ 2 - planted medicinal herbs (eucalyptus, ginger,lavender, oregano, rosemary) in the garden as well as muscadine grapes, dragonfruit and berry bushes + natives for the bees and butterflies. ⠀ 3 - my boys having their "coffee" aka hot chocolate.⠀ 4 - the BEST sandwich (such a nice italian girl) on gf bread at @thepasschs ⠀ 5 - date night seeing Jimmy Eat World...⠀ 6 - my favorite steak tartare at @eattheordinary⠀ 7 - and their shrimp rice⠀ 8 - and their shrimp larb⠀ 9+10 - @forceofnaturemeats bison and beef blends with liver and heart now at whole foods! such an incredible product and loaded with bioavailable nutrients ⠀

⁣Made these Cava inspired meal prep bowls for lunch! Here’s how:⠀ ⠀ 1. marine chicken in garlic, oregano, lemon juice, lemon zest, evoo. bake on 375 until cooked through.⠀ 2. chop a bunch of red onion, tomato, parsley and cucumber for a salad.⠀ 3. cook basmati rice with bone broth and cumin. ⠀ 4. add arugula to a bowl with olive oil, salt and pepper.⠀ 5. add your chicken, tomato salad and rice.⠀ 6. top with hummus and harrissa!⠀ ⠀ Such an easy and perfect lunch. ⁣This is why America has a national health crisis, because politicians (mainly republicans) want to eliminate healthy food for poor people, while increasing subsidies for cheap crops like corn, soy and wheat - the bulk of which processed food is made up of. ⠀ ⠀ Subsidies increased from 4 billion in 2016 to over 20 billion - and the GOP wants to cut fruits and veggies from the diets of toddlers, pregnant and nursing women and the elderly? And let's not forget in many states women and children are now being forced to give birth. It's just sick.⠀ ⠀ Health is a human right, access to healthy and nutritious food should be available to every single person in this country. There should be no food deserts, there should be no politics in food. But here we are - food companies like Nestle and The Sugar Association pay politicians, they fund nutrition schools and influence policy in our country. And that's why we have the sickest children and highest rate of infant and maternal mortality of any wealthy nation. How to build a non-toxic medicine cabinet for back to school! ⁣These are some of the non-toxic medicines, natural immunity boosters and illness fighting ingredients I keep on hand in case the boys get sick. We always start with a healthy diet that’s low in sugar with lots of healthy fats (butter, olive oil, avocado), protein and fermented foods (they love yogurt and kombucha). ⠀ ⠀ To supplement daily (or when I remember) I give a probiotic, fish oil and a multivitamin.⠀ ⠀ When the boys are actively sick I use immune boosting nutrients like vitamin D and zinc, essential oils from @planttherapy and elderberry + plus this non-toxic fever reducer (I only treat fevers above 103 or if they’re feeling really terrible). ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #healthykids #nontoxic #nontoxicfamily #nontoxickids #healthyfamily #healthykids #naturalremedies #essentialoils #foodismedicine #healthy #family

Today we said goodbye to my grandmother, who spent 96 years on this earth, many of which were spent taking care of me while I was growing up. She packed my school lunches, she made me feel safe, she loved me and supported me in ways my parents could not. I am thankful my sons got to know her, that we went to her home once or twice a week to spend time with her. I am forever grateful for afternoons chatting with her while my boys ran around, for all the lunches we had together these last ten years, for her unending love. She is forever woven into the fabric of my being and I’m thankful to be her granddaughter.

This salmon crudo is probably my most favorite thing I make, and the easiest. I buy the salmon from a local seafood shop, slice it raw, top with good Greek olive oil, sea salt, chives, lemon zest and fresh horseradish (totally different flavor). I keep the horseradish in the freezer which both prolongs its life and makes it easier to zest. 🐟🍋🐟 Salmon is one of my absolute favorite brain foods. Six Ways To Get Kids To Eat Healthy Food

If you don’t want your kids to eat their meals, give them snacks all day. If we’re having meatloaf, they’re having meatloaf. If we’re having salmon, they’re having salmon. If possible, start your kids out on veggies, protein and healthy fats like olive oil, butter and avocado.

If you like crispy Brussels sprouts and crispy outside/tender inside breakfast potatoes, you’re gonna LOVE these Brussels sprout breakfast potatoes! Brussels are a cruciferous veggie, which have numerous health benefits including: they secrete excess hormones, particularly estrogen, from the body * cruciferous veggies are beneficial for gut health and also loaded with vitamins and minerals * cooked and cooled potatoes are beneficial for gut bacteria, they are a resistant starch, meaning they feed the good bacteria in the gut * use whatever spices you like * feel free to use sweet or purple potatoes * Use a high quality avocado oil like this one, as most on the market are rancid (see my article on that here)
