The Woks of Life Guide

Here’s what we did: One of the biggest challenges of Acadia National Park was figuring out the best mix of easy/moderate/intermediate hikes that didn’t progress into more advanced treks or take 10 miles to complete This website focused on Acadia National Park was incredibly helpful, as is this Joe’s Guide to Acadia National Park site, but share your favorite Acadia hikes in the comments if you’ve been, as I will definitely be going back! As a tide pool lover, I spent much of the trip chasing excellent tide pools, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the tide pools that were easily accessible in Acadia and Bar Harbor. This made it a perfect home base for a day trip into New Hampshire to check out White Mountain National Forest, which we did on our second day in Portland.

Vegan Queso: Easy No-Cook Recipe!

Whether you’re looking to eat plant-based, are lactose-intolerant, or just want a healthy alternative, with delicious add-ins like tomatoes, peppers, and vegan chorizo, you’ll never look back. My favorites are chopped tomato, chopped green bell peppers, a handful of chopped cilantro leaves and stems, and a spoonful of crispy vegan chorizo. Add the nutritional yeast, cumin, onion powder, oregano, white vinegar, and hot sauce. Blend until combined, and add salt, additional hot sauce, and/or nutritional yeast to taste.

Beef Lo Mein: REAL Restaurant Recipe!

This home-cooked Beef Lo Mein recipe tastes just like what you’d get at a Chinese takeout restaurant (or better, because it uses more vegetables than your typical takeout). While even we sometimes order from takeout restaurants when we need a quick meal or don’t feel like cooking, this beef lo mein recipe is much more satisfying. To prepare cooked lo mein noodles for stir-frying, let them come up to room temperature and give them a quick rinse under hot tap water. Prepare the lo mein sauce by combining the soy sauce, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, sugar, and ground white pepper in a small bowl.

Flaky Apple Pie: Plus Our Pie Crust Secrets!

A traditional double crust pie dough recipe generally calls for about 2 ½ cups of flour, ½ pound of butter and/or shortening, and 6-8 tablespoons of water. Most pie crust recipes call for too much water: Adding more water helps the dough come together and become easier to work with, but it also activates the gluten in the flour, making the crust tough instead of flaky. While I usually use a pastry cutter, to incorporate my butter into the flour, grating the butter first made this process easier, and also helped the dough come together despite using less water! Dissolve 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon salt in 2 tablespoons of hot water, and then add an additional 2 ½ tablespoons of cold water.
