✨SMALL TOWN SPOTLIGHT This week our Small Town Spotlight is Nungarin, a Wheatbelt town just over 3hrs east of Perth with a population of approx 230. Nungarin was the largest inland military storage facility during WWII. It now is home to one of the best military and army museums in Australia. Nungarin like many Wheatbelt communities has a vast and beautiful landscape with many granite outcrops and salt lakes. 20km north of town you will find Eaglestone Rock and Lake Brown. A great spot to explore and camp the night (there are no facilities!) You can also find Danberrin and Talgomine Rocks nearby also. Returning back to Nungarin stop and enjoy a beer or great pub meal at the historic Nungarin Hotel or why not stay the night upstairs in one of their rooms and wake ready for the monthly Sunday markets held on the first Sunday of each month. Nungarin is also home to Mangowine Homestead, a historic national trust property. You can even camp here for the night at their on site caravan park. A weekend of camping, bush races and wonderful country vibes. On your way to the bush races site you will follow the Tin Horse Highway which is 15km of very amusing and quirky tin horses that are well worth a stop to check them out. Continue driving east and you will come across Buckley’s Breakaway, an other worldly reserve which you can picnic and explore the mars like rocks. Recently the area has had an upgrade, with redevelopment along the river foreshore and a new Mends St Arcade shopping area. Within a two minute walk of the Quest South Perth Foreshore is the South Perth ferry with a seven minute trip across the river to the Perth City, Elizabeth Quay and the Convention & Exhibition Centre. Like the ‘Bottlebrush’ which has locally made Old Young’s No.1, Giniversity aromatised wine, Australian Bottlebrush with native wattle seed and lemon myrtle. As our weekend drew to an end, I thought of the history I had with this amazing group or girls who I have called my friends for such a long time.
The train followed the ocean the whole way to Otaru where we watched the crazy japanese surfers and the waves crashing against the snowy shore. Otaru was beautiful, with snow falling on us constantly all day as we walked the streets exploring the fish stalls and souviner shops. Although sad to get back on the train after our wonderful day in Otaru, we were excited as our family friends were arriving that night. Next time you head to northern Japan for their famous j-pow and ski slopes, take a few days to explore Sapporo before you go.
As a family of five if there is LESS things for ME to have to worry about when I’m on holiday the BETTER it is for everyone in our family. The resorts that only cover your food or the ones that cover your food and some drinks but only at certain restaurants or bars. But our all time favourite All Inclusive resorts would be the Club Med Resorts With Club Med it includes all your activities in the upfront costs.
Mt Romance Farm is situated half way between Denmark and Walpole in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. Denmark Dinosaur World is 10 minutes drive from Mt Romance Farm and another great place to visit with the kids . The Denmark Dinosaur World is open 9:30-4:30 daily and costs $45 for a family (2 adults plus 3 children). We opened the bottle of local wine that we had picked up at the Bow Bridge Store and the enjoyed the peace and tranquility of Mt Romance Farm.
