Final Update

Well, after some thinking, I’ve come to a decision: I will no longer be updating this blog. To elaborate, I’m a writer, of both fiction and non-fiction, who has a lot to say about many things. So for the first entry in my #FreshFridays series (or in this case fresh-ish), I’m going to be examining the song Almeda by Solange. The first single from her new album, When I Get Home, both this song and that album were actually released roughly a month ago….and

Final Update

Honestly, having separate blogs dedicated to music, movies, travel and self-care/mental health simply wasn’t working. Also, I’m sure you all may have noticed I tend to be way more interested in music from past eras, which is where we run into another issue. It would be hard for me to provide consistently relevant music news and commentary when I either don’t care for or don’t even know about most of the stuff that’s out nowadays. Maybe one day, I’ll have the sort of clout that Questlove has when talking about the culture and history of music, but for now, I think it’s best to relegate my music speak to a tag on a general writing page.

Update: On Hiatus

So, I already elaborated on this a little bit here, but long story short, I’ve been fairly busy lately and have also come to the realization it really wasn’t working in my favor to have different blogs for every topic of interest (especially if I want to upgrade to a paid account). In The Key of P, travel writing is a thing I’m genuinely passionate about. Sadly, I don’t have the time nor funds to travel regularly (thankfully, having secured more gainful employment, that should be changing soon enough). Believe me, I would love to tell you all about my time in Seattle, but the words to convey my experience just aren’t coming to me now.

My Childhood Wasn’t Ruined – Aladdin: A Review

As we all know by now, to the chagrin and despair of 80’s and 90’s babies everywhere, Disney has taken to churning out live-action remakes of it’s beloved animated films, particularly those from the “Renaissance” era as it’s been called. It’s also explained that The Sultan has some severe PTSD going on over her mother’s death, which is why he keeps Jasmine so boxed-in. Initially, I was a little put off as it’s basically Will Smith playing himself, but then again, the original Genie was essentially Robin Williams playing himself so it’s really a non-issue. In the original, the Genie is utterly mortified when Aladdin persuades Jafar into wishing he were a genie, and even Aladdin doesn’t seem entirely sure of what he’s doing.
