Today is #rarediseaseday and it's a day to celebrate Benji and his special spots. Ben was born with a giant congenital nevus. It's been a wild ride, but we are on good ground now. As long as I've known Patrick, I've known "Blackjack" and they've been besties far longer than that. A friendship made up of hours in a shop, inappropriate jokes, doing things they shouldn't (due to laws or common sense), talking about farm stuff, four wheeling, way too many Chevy S10s, and so much more. He stood up next to Patrick when we got married. He was the person who called Patrick the day of the accident. They've been there for one another for decades. Now no new memories will be made with Brian in them, but we have so many that will be in our hearts forever. Hey everyone! Remember me? 😆 I'm still over here juggling life, but I think I owe you all an update! 🏫 The boys started 4K and 1st grade this month. So far, we've only missed the bus a couple times and haven't yet had a call home from school. So I'm thinking that's going pretty well. They also got to be ring security at #sarahandmitchgethitched 🐮 🌽 We started chopping corn silage yesterday at the farm. We were lucky this year and got rain when we needed it and our crops look good. The cows are doing well, although we had some heartbreak with a run of bad luck this summer. 🎪The biggest news is that I've taken on a new job! I'm about a month in working with @fabfarmbabe and the Midwest Farm Report. I'm just part time, but I'm enjoying sharing the stories in agriculture in a different way. I'm also still cooking at @babcock_house It's my therapy more than a job. I love creating meals and talking with the "kids". Now that we are getting into our new routine, you'll be seeing me more here again! I also have some exciting news that I'll be sharing on stories later today! P.S. We got family photos done and I'm in love!!!

Lucy. Just a pretty cow doing pretty cow things. This is a throwback pic because we've had a crazy spring and haven't let the girls out to pasture yet. Hopefully this next week we will be able to get them out on the grass.

Maybe has attended exactly one dog show. She managed to pull off "Best Puppy" and the judge pulled me aside to tell me that she was a "truly exceptional puppy". I'm pretty sure that day was the last time she was ever truly clean. While she may be exceptional, she's never been about that show dog life. Instead she prefers to wear whatever smelly thing she found to roll in. She also apparently likes having bad hair cuts due to excessive burdock collection. But most of all, Maybe loves people. So much so that she will sneak off to sit along side the road and look lost so good samaritans stop and then when they open their car door she surprises them by jumping in and attempting to violently snuggle whoever happens to be in the car. These people are always surprised to find out that she executes this scheme with regularity. Hard to believe she turns 10 years old today. Our life wouldn't be complete without the chaos she adds to our mix. P.S. Today he is 4. I know everyone says it but it's really true, the days are long, but the years are short. I cannot believe it has been four years since Benji joined our family. Happy birthday to our baby. The one who is sassy, sweet, mischievous, funny and so very independent. When he was born, we worried about how the world would treat him. Now we are worried that the world isn't ready for him. Benji is going to be a force. And I'm going to be tired and proud. #4yearsold #benjerben #nevuslove #worldchanger

Today was a good day. These two gals, @kidscowsandgrass and @brandibuzzard are people who cheer me on. They have been there in the dark hours. They are two gals I admire so much. And today we rocked a panel at @animalagalliance summit. Getting some time with gals like these, speaking to a group which is something that I love, that is something my soul needed.
