Best Hiking Snacks for Your Family 💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) One way to save a bit of money and to keep my boys energized while adventuring is to bring our own food. In our family snacks are the key to a successful adventure. So, here are a few of our favorite snacks that we bring with us: ✅Fruits and Vegetables, such as bananas, apples, cucumbers, bell peppers. I usually wash them, but I don't cut them to preserve freshness. ✅ A bag of @grandyorganics granola. These small batch granolas are packed with clean ingredients, and we like them as they are sustainable, and most importantly, delicious. ✅Homemade Trail Mix with almonds, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, coconut flakes, dried cherries and some chocolate chips. ✅Tuna packets and crackers ✅Simple and easy peanut butter sandwiches What are some of your family favorite hiking snacks? What did I miss? Please let me know in the comments! Also remember when you are done eating you need to pack out everything that you packed in on your hike. Top Things to Do in Summit County, Colorado 💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) ❄️ I am sure you all heard that Summit County is the perfect family destination in both the summer and winter, as there is so much you can do there; skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice skating, biking, hiking, fishing or shopping at the @outletsatsilverthorne    We love visiting that area as between all four towns Frisco, Silverthorne, Dillon and Breckenridge we always find something to do for all of us. Here are a few of our favorite places and things to do: 🏂⛷Skiing or snowboarding is so much fun. If you are visiting CO and don’t want to bring all your gear, or if you forgot something then you can stop at @blue_valley_ski and rent all your equipment, clothing and all needed accessories for skiing and riding at Arapaho Basin, Breckenridge, Keystone Resort, Copper Mountain and Vail. They have the lowest prices in the whole Summit County. 🛼Snowshoeing trails we like are Boreas Pass, Willow Creek Falls, Acorn Creek, Mayflower Gulch, Peaks Trail, Mount Baldy or you can visit any of the three Summit County Nordic Centers. 🏨Where to stay? There are many different options but I would recommend checking @friscomountainhouse or @thepadsilverthorne 🍽Where to eat?  for breakfast I highly suggest checking out @butterhorn_bakery_cafe and for lunch or dinner stop at the @timberlinecraftkitchen 🚠My kids love to catch a gondola ride at Breckenridge, as its FREE, and the views are breathtaking, you can also enjoy a meal or beverage at the top. 🥾If you are in Breckenridge don't forget to visit Isak Heartstone the wooden troll sculpture that is located on the Trollstigen Trail near the Ice Arena. Did you visit Summit County? Also, if you have any questions or need a more detailed itinerary please comment below or send me a DM. We were totally not expeting to see this… …yesterday when we came back home from our stroll around  Golden we found that our power went out.  We just got pizza and planned to eat it and watch a movie. Well, we still ate the pizza but no movie. Instead we read the books that we just picked up at the library. (ad) I was thankful we had  @jackeryusa Jackery  Explorer 1000 & solar panels, saved our  night. Usually we bring it with us on all our adventures, and I never thought I would have to use it inside, but theres always that one time. Jackery products  produce almost zero noise and they're safe to be used indoors. They  can power lights, heaters, heating blankets, kettles, and other appliances to keep you safe and happy during any winter-related power outages. What's your emergency power backup plan? Do you have a generator, candles, or maybe some fun flashlights? . . . . #jackeryusa #jackery #denvercolorado

Happy Birthday Rocky Mountains National Park! Colorado’s most epic and one of the most popular parks in the nation turns 107! If you are planning on visiting RMNP now or in the summer then here are a few of my favorite&family friendly hikes 💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) 1. Bear Lake Trail it's easy about 0.5mi trail, which is perfect for little munchkins. 2. Alberta Falls, is one of the most popular hikes within the RMNP. 3. Holzwarth Historic Site Trail is a great hike to the historic site where you can walk through the property, look at all the old buildings and just imagine what life was like for the Holzwarths many years ago. 4. Sprague Lake is a great option if the Bear Lake parking lot is full. It's relatively flat and a very short hike (less than 1 mi). 5. The Nymph, Dream, and Emerald Lake hike is one of the best hikes in RMNP as it offers stunning views of multiple alpine lakes. If you have extra time then add Lake Haiyaha and Bear Lake to your adventures. Hikes outside of RMNP: 1. Lily Lake Trail is our personal favorite as it has the best views of the two highest peaks in the RMNP: Mt. Meeker and Longs Peak. 2. Gem Lake is located outside of the park too. It is a short but very strenuous hike. Did you visit Rocky Mountain National Park? If you have any questions about this park, drop them bellow. . . . . . #rmnp #rockymountainnationalpark #nationalpark #national_park_photography #findyourpark #trekkingtoes #sheisnotlost #shewillhike #colorado #coloradolife #coloradogirl #coloradogram #visitcolorado #coloradogrammers #womenwhohike #womenwhohikecolorado #52hikechallenge #dirtybootstravel #hikinggoals

3 Places in Western Kansas That Should Be On Your Family Travel Bucket List 💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 Location 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) How many of you drove on I-70 across Kansas and thought thats its flat and boring with nothing to see? But let me tell you, this is not true! Kansas really has alot to offer. I was totlaly mind-blown by its iconic prairies, state parks, historic sites, and some pretty amazing chalky badlands. The next time you're driving through the area, make sure you check out these places: 1. Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park, and see its amazing  Niobrara Chalk formations. These formations are very soft and fragile so there is no climbing or walking on them. If you would like to explore more of this gorgeous place, then make sure you visit Badlands State Park website and get yourself a free tour guide that will guide you through. 2. Monument Rocks National Landmark and Castle Rock are two of the 8 Wonders of Kansas, and definitely are must visit places if you are in the area. Also, if you look closely in the rocks, you will see tons of tiny fossils! Note: Both places are on private land but the landowners are amenable to visitors and no special permission is required. Please  be respectful of the property when you visit. 3. Mount Sunflower, even though its not a true mountain, it is the highest natural point in the U.S. state of Kansas at 4,039 feet above sea level. You have to really look for Mount Sunflower, as its a barely noticeable rise in the middle of a field on a ranch,  less than half a mile (0.8 km) from the state border with Colorado and is close to the lowest point in Colorado. What are you adventure goals for this year? We have a few adventures planed already, but we are very open to more recommendations. Is there anything you would like us to check out and write about before you guys go? . . . . #kansas #keepitwild #cameramama #jj_kids #littlejerusalembadlandsstatepark #findyourpark #hikingbangers #travelusa #usaroadtrip #travelmoments #travelmoms

Must Have Items for an Unforgettable Winter Adventure💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) (AD) We love winter adventures more then summer ones, even though it takes longer to get everyone dressed, a few more tantrums, and sometimes even a change of plans as roads can be closed. That’s what happened to us last weekend. We were hoping to hike at the RMNP but unfortunately due to wind and snowstorm conditions, they closed the park. Thankfully we were prepared and quickly changed our plan. Here are a few practical tips to make your winter adventures safe and enjoyable, as during cold and snowy months its critical to wear the right clothing and carry the right gear. 🪆Layers for everyone in your family: sweat wicking base layers, cozy middle layers and weather proof top layers. Top layer needs to be wind proof as it’s a key of staying warm. We all love Cyclone jacket from @revolutionrace, as it is waterproof, windproof and extremely breathable with sealed seams. Use code LRD15 for 15% off on all products, but cannot be combined with any other discount. The code is valid from January 12-14th. Check link in my bio🔗 🥾Water resistant and insulated footwear with breathable merino socks. 🎩 Beanies, headbands, gloves, scarf. 🪠Other important necessities: lip balm, sunscreen, hand warmers, emergency blanket, flashlight, first aid kit, navigation tools (map, compass) 🥘 Food: snacks for everyone to enjoy. Keep in mind, some snacks will solidify easily in the cold weather, and water will freeze in a plastic bottle or water bladder. 🚧Some extra things to keep in your vehicle: ice scraper and snow brush, windshield deicer fluid, jumper cables, extra warm clothes, blankets, non-perishable foods, water. ⛽️When you are traveling during winter make sure you have good tires, and your vehicle has at least half tank of gas. Do you have any winter adventures planned? . . . . . #natureisourplayground #optoutside #findyourpark #hikingculture #breckenridge #kidswhoexplore

Best Things to Do in Breckenridge  💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 Location 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) We all heard  that skiing&snowboarding is one of the top winter activities in Breckenridge, but there is much more you can do in this little mountain town. Here  are some things you can’t miss when you are in the area: ❄️Check Breckenridge's International Snow Sculpture Championships. This is a MUST see free, fun, outdoor winter event! Snow sculptor enthusiasts from all over  the world will come to town to show their incredible work. They will carve 20 ton blocks of snow into monumental artworks. The event will be held at the Riverwalk parking lot, from  January 28 - February 2, 2022. ❄️Stop and say Hi to Isak Heartstone on Illinois Gulch Trail. ❄️Visit the Nordic center to try Nordic skiing, x-country skiing, snowshoeing or take a scenic snowcat excursion. ❄️Stroll the historic main street which is home to many boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants and stores. If you are there make sure to stop at Giampietro Pizzeria&Pasta to try delicious pizza and then have dessert at Mimi&Pin churros and waffles or Crepes ALaCart. ❄️Take a  ride on the FREE  Gondola from town to the ski area’s Peak 8 base to enjoy some of the best mountain views. ❄️Bring your sled or snow tube and go  down the hill at Carter Park Sledding Hill. There is also another sledding hill on Fraction Dr. These sledding hills are FREE, and it’s  a perfect afternoon activity for the whole family. ❄️Go Ice skating at the Stephen C West Ice Arena ❄️If you have little munchkins then stop at the famous High Line Railroad Park. This park is super fun, and it  features the historical Engine No. 9, that sits on the original High Line track. It includes a restored rotary snowplow, which is  one of only five known narrow-gauge rotaries still in existence. ❄️Hikes:Mayflower Gulch is one of our favorites, and in my opinion the best hike near Breckenridge for those looking for a moderate day hike with mesmerizing views. Let me know in the comments if I have missed anything ❗️To make your winter hiking experience  safe and enjoyable, there are a few pieces of gear that you will need. Check out my post tomorrow for more info.

Looking for a great winter hike in Rocky Mountain National Park? 💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) Then check Lake Haiyaha, as in winter this lake has some of the most unique turquoise color ice formations. In my opinion it’s one of the BEST lakes at the park. ✅Length: 3.9 Miles RT ✅How to get there: Park at the Bear lake parking lot and  begin your hike at the Bear Lake trailhead. Usually this parking lot gets full, and during the winter months there is no shuttle from the main parking lot, so plan to get there early. Next from the Bear Lake trailhead follow the trail to the Dream Lake for about 1mi. Then just before Dream Lake you will have to turn left  to continue your hike to the lake Haiyaha (look for the sign). During  the winter months the trail could be difficult to find, so the only way to find it is to follow the footprints or ski tracks from other hikers. When you get to the lake you will find many large boulders at the shoreline, which looks a little rough but if you are careful, and have appropriate gear (microspikes) you can get over them to the icy lake and  walk around it. It’s so much fun. ✅Must do before the hike: check weather forecast, and ask rangers about avalanche danger. ✅What to bring: MICROSPIKES, snow shoes, dress in warm clothes, hat, gloves, water, food and hand  warmers. 💫 𝗕𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗕𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗡𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 💫⠀ Do you like hiking better in the winter or in the summer?   . . . . . #colorado_creative #dnvrcolorado #outtherecolorado #viewcolorado #rmnp #coloradolive

Tips for Dressing Your Kids in Winter 💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫) (ad) Dressing our little ones for the winter can sometimes be a struggle! We want to keep them warm enough but also comfortable! Luckily, I’ve figured out some great tips that work for my family, and hopefully can help you out too! Features to Consider in Kids’ Outerwear: ✔️Jacket length ✔️Hoods ✔️Cuffs ✔️Thumbhole cuffs ✔️Extendable sleeves and pant legs ✔️Adjustable waist tabs ✔️Glove leashes and ID labels ✔️Reflective accents Quality winter clothes can be pricey, so it’s great to have something that can last through some of your child’s growing. We even like to size up for some items! Longer jackets provide more warmth which can be great for playing in the snow or on a windy day. Features like glove leashes and ID labels are seriously underrated! Super helpful so nothing gets lost or left behind.🙌 If you’re planning to be out and about when the sun goes down, reflective accents are a must! It’s better to play it safe and make visibility extra clear. Also, always keep in mind where you live and what your local winter weather is like!
