The Best OKC Attractions-OKC Zoo & Botanical Garden

With its unique animal experiences and continued commitment to conservation, families of all ages enjoy this longstanding Oklahoma tradition. When the kids were younger, we were members of Zoofriends, which allowed us to have unlimited OKC Zoo admission for a whole year and support the zoo’s conservation, education, and research efforts at the same time. The Lotus Pavilion didn’t appear to be open when we were there (several indoor activities were limited due to Covid-19 precautions), but we enjoyed all of the adjoining animal habitats. Whether you’re taking a homeschool field trip, getting the little ones out of the house, connecting with your teenagers, or just want to get a little closer to nature, the OKC Zoo is a great place to spend the day!

Essentials in Writing & Essentials in Literature Level 10 Mid-Year Update

Dr. Melissa Felkins gives a mid-year update on how Essentials in Writing and Essentials in Literature Level 10 are working for her homeschool high school. With the checklists, my homeschool high school students are able to make sure they’ve done everything they can to write a great essay before they bring their final copy to me for feedback. Essentials in Literature Level 10 has the novel unit set up to be done over 26 school days, not including the summative assessment and the culminating activity. I appreciate the maturity that I’ve seen as we’ve discussed difficult topics, and they’ve become aware of how different life experiences can produce different perspectives.

This reminder stays up year-round at our house! I look at joy the same way I look at love. It’s not an emotion. It’s a choice...a commitment. We can’t always control everything that happens in our world, but we can choose how we respond. Choose joy, my friends. Life is too short to waste it being grumpy! #itsajoyousjourney #choosejoy #joy #jolly #happy #behappy #christianblogger #christianblog #homeschool #homeschoollife #oklahomablogger #okcblogger

As a homeschool mom and an advocate for individualized learning experiences, I’m always excited when I hear about colleges that are friendly to homeschool students and allow students to personalize their educational experience. Thiel College fits both of those criteria! #sponsored⁣ ⁣ It has homeschool-friendly admission policies, a small community feeling, and superior transition services to help homeschool graduates make the jump from high school to college. I've been thinking a lot about goals lately. It's something we tend to do around the start of a new year, isn't it? But, really, taking steps to reach our long-term goals should be part of our daily habits.⁣ ⁣ I had talked to my teens about goal-setting quite a bit…always with the “we really need to do this” urgency. But I hadn’t actually required them to do it. I don’t know about your teens, but mine don’t always take action on things like that just based on a suggestion.⁣ ⁣ So, we worked it into a writing assignment before Christmas break. I was really pleased with the thought they put into it. It got me thinking about how many opportunities they have at this stage of their lives. ⁣ ⁣ If they can learn now how to break their goals down into manageable steps that they can work into their daily lives, there's no reason they can't turn their dreams into reality!⁣ ⁣ I don't know about you, but I've spent way too many days of my life just trying to keep up. I want my kids to do better...to live intentionally every day! ⁣ ⁣ To help them do that, I created a Goal-Setting Starter Pack for Teens, and I want to share it with you for FREE! It includes a Vision Board to really get them thinking! Link in Bio.⁣ ⁣ I plan to create a complete goal planner soon, but this will get us all started in the right direction! ⁣ ⁣ How do you help your teens set and achieve goals?
