If the vaginal canal is slightly curved, why do we keep using straight-edged vaginal speculums that do not follow anatomy? This curiosity is what ultimately led me on a journey to redesign & develop a line of vaginal speculums to prioritize patient comfort, and still provide an optimal experience for healthcare providers to perform pap smears and pelvic exams. Amaara, a line of 8 vaginal speculum designs, considers my lens as an entrepreneur, doula, patient advocate, and midwife in residence. Some of the speculums curve with anatomy, and they are the first of several medical device redesign projects that I will pursue through Midicals; a progressive, environmentally friendly, medical device design company dedicated to improving patient satisfaction through common-sense design for women's reproductive health. The redesigns will be announced throughout 2024. Thank you to the phenomenal team at StartUp Health, Right Side Capital Management, and Jumpstart Health Investors for your continued support. PS - This drawing is one of my first iterations of the vaginal speculum redesign. A lot has changed since then, but it's cool to see where I started. Parental Mental Health Awareness Day is today! Now more than ever women, parents, and parents-to-be need to share and hear stories about how to navigate the stress, anxiety, that has come with managing their health and mental health during the pandemic. Wingwomen, and our partners and health advocates around the world, saw their need for peer support and community and answered the call by organizing both today and next week which is International Parental Mental Health Awareness Week. For the next several days you will see resources and words of encouragement across our channels as well as that of our partners through this day of awareness. Parental Mental Health Awareness Day & International Parental Mental Health Awareness Week are initiatives organized by Wingwomen to drive conversations around the importance of mental health amongst parents and caregivers and serve to provide resources and peer support for parents, and families navigating their fertility journey. If you’re a mental health professional, doula, midwife, birth worker, perinatal specialist, nurse, family health specialist, health coach, patient advocate, or host a support group, we want your help! We need you to highlight your service, assistance programs, or counseling resources online so parents can find you. If you want to share your support, feel free to share our content or make your own and use the hashtags – #ParentalMentalHealthAwarenessWeek, #PMHAW #MaternalMentalHealthMatters, or #PaternalMentalHealthMatters
I've been holding on to a little secret for several weeks. My company Wingwomen was 1 of 10 companies globally that was selected for the Milestone Makers Winter cohort by the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center. Each company that was selected had to show a commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #3 (Well-being). A couple of years ago, when I was in the midst of a journey to rebuild my health, I started to realize how much my health improved by having people around me who understood what I had experienced. At the time the world was at the beginning of a pandemic and in-person opportunities to connect were put on hold. This inspired me to create a digital environment where women could connect about their health concerns. At the time, I had no idea how such a small action on my part would roll into what it has become today, nor would I have considered that my company would take me on a health learning journey through Wharton, MIT Bootcamps, Harvard Medical, Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center and Duke University. Today as I make this announcement, I'm thankful for everyone who has championed my work, and who understands how important it is to support efforts around #womenshealth. This path wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention the other Founders who have been silently working alongside me and supporting each other over the last 6 weeks. I couldn't do this without you! I'm also sending a special thank you to Bank of West, Nicola Corzine, Colin Mahin, and the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center for their support as we work towards building and scaling See the official announcement (link in profile) https://lnkd.in/gDhGB7Sk #MilestoneMakers #Founders #Entrepreneurs #GoodHealth #Wellbeing #GenderEquity #UNSDG
