Behind the Greek door! Sometimes, you get lucky enough to go beyond the Greek door to see what is on the other side. During a recent trip to Sifnos, I was able to go to a monastery on the island to the church portion. The whole monastery complex was that beautiful whitewashed and blue door with a traditional Greek look. Makes being a monk a whole lot more appealing! This was the stunning Vryssi Monastery in Sifnos. South Padre Island is 34 miles long! Much of it is a wild public beach in which you can drive on. Only a small portion of the island has buildings on it. This week's Greek door is a tiny door at the Monastery of the Great Meteoron. Many of the doors had labels as to whether it was someone's room or what it was for, but this one was a mystery. No label, and it was very short. It will forever be a mystery to me as to what it was for. You usually don't think of monasteries as being stunning, but these ones in Meteora are exactly that! The commitment and physical stamina it took for them to build them without modern technology amazes me. Hundreds of thousands of people have probably walked past this door either to arrive home or make their pilgrimage to Meteora. This is a now unused door at the Kalampaka train station, and the striking contrast between the door color and the building color spoke to me. While it is mainland Greece, the island colors still manage to find their way everywhere in Greece. I love the color combo. This stunning lake was formed when a landslide occurred in 1913 from Mount Helmos, damming a river. You can now hike and kayak around Tsivlou Lake. The area is stunningly beautiful and very green. Sometimes, the Greek door leads to a beautiful church. The church was been burned twice. Once in 1826 and then again during WWII in 1943. Sadly, the entire male population, were executed that day. There is a monument to the lives lost that day, which is still commemorated in Greece today. Once you have gone to the appointment, you may need to submit more documents after the appointment. However, my attorney didn’t send a copy of the power of attorney, so they weren’t accepted. You will then go to the migration website to register and make an appointment to pick up your Greece Resident Permit. When you go to your appointment, you need to take a print out of your appointment with you, your passport and your temporary resident permit (the blue paper).
