Norwegian Cruise Line eliminates single-use plastic bottles

Norwegian Cruise Line has partnered with JUST Goods, Inc. to eliminate single-use plastic bottles across its fleet by 1 January 2020. ” Norwegian will be the first major global cruise company to become plastic bottle free by 1 January 2020, eliminating over six million plastic bottles each year. It follows a ban on plastic straws across its 16-ship fleet and private destinations, which was implemented in 2018. the elimination of single-use plastic bottles across our fleet – is just the latest environmentally responsible action we are taking to reduce our footprint and encourage others to protect our natural resources,” adds Andy.

Enchanted Princess celebrates new milestone

Princess Cruises held a Madrina ceremony for its new ship, Enchanted Princess, in Fincantieri, Italy, today with Doris Ho CEO of Magsaysay Inc, serving as the Madrina. Enchanted Princess will feature a number of new and reimagined venues on board, including: Two new Sky Suites, each of which can accommodate five guests. Enchanted will also boast many of the new features and design found on Sky Princess (which launches in October 2019), including a wakeview pool on its aft deck and relaxing Sanctuary area offering a new contemporary design with more private cabanas than ever before. Executive Vice President for Guest Experience & Product Development, Rai Caluori, spoke about how both Sky Princess together with Enchanted Princess will continue to evolve the guest experience, particularly in terms of an improved suite offering on board.

Dame Helen Mirren christens Scenic Eclipse

Godmother Dame Helen Mirren was welcomed on board Scenic Eclipse, the newest ship from Scenic, for its official christening in New York yesterday. director Taylor Hackford, the award-winning actress christened the ship dockside by breaking the ceremonial bottle of champagne against the hull and bestowing the traditional blessing of safekeeping over all those who sail on board. It was an honour to welcome Helen and Taylor on board and to share with them our vision and passion which together with the dedication and talent of the Scenic team has created an experience which has set a brand new bench mark in the discovery cruising, said Glen Moroney, Chairman and Founder of Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours. Among the ship’s innovative technological features are cutting edge zero-speed stabilizer fins, the highest passenger ship ice class rating available (Polar Class ) and a GPS dynamic position system allowing for stationing positioning without an anchor to reduce environmental impact.

Princess Cruises completes sea trials of Sky Princess

Princess Cruises has ticked off another major milestone in preparation of the launch of its newest ship, Sky Princess, by completing the ship’s sea trials. The 3,660-guest Sky Princess set out to sea from a construction dock at Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, and was put through its paces with a series of manoeuvres to test the propulsion, steering and navigational equipment. Among the innovations are two new Sky Suites, home to the largest balconies at sea which provide a private vantage of the top deck Movies Under the Stars cinema screen as well as 270-degree panoramic views. Sky Princess will also be part of the Princess Medallion Class, where guests are given a complimentary OceanMedallion wearable device the same size as a 10p piece in order to receive an entirely new level of service.
